Meet Ryan Pavlovich of Ryan Pavlovich Photography in Mt. Washington

Today we’d like to introduce you to Ryan Pavlovich.

Ryan, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
So, I grew up in a super small town in Michigan (seriously… graduated with 75 kids) so I didn’t really pick up a camera until college, but I’ll never forget that day watching my photo develop on paper in the lab though; I was hooked!

After college, I worked as a designer for a snowboard company for a couple years until I decided to really chase my photo degree and started assisting local photographers in West Michigan which is where I really started learning about the industry, lighting, and so on.

In 2013, I went through some massive life changes and my wife and I decided to move out here to LA. I took the first couple years here to get acquainted with things and truthfully needed some time to really look at myself and my style and in a way, start over again but with way more focus. When we first moved here, my wife and I were working together which was amazing but her passions took her in a different direction. In Michigan, I was working with all sorts of clients from furniture to bands, and everything in between so it’s been great to be able to hone in on what I love in photography which is portraits, and lifestyle type work.

Has it been a smooth road?
Smooth road… yeah, I don’t believe there is such a thing. Honestly, I think if it was a smooth road I wouldn’t be into it. I like having to work for things, and the problem solving that goes with it. I’ve certainly had a heck of time figuring out my voice in photography, as well as the direction I’ve wanted to go with it as I think many artists do. I think I’m just into too many things sometimes, as I like everything from shooting motorcycles and that culture to kid’s style, portraits, and even products so it’s been a struggle for me to step back and decide what it is that truly makes me the most excited to get up each day.

Aside from that, it’s been tough to meet people here for me having four kids in this town doesn’t lend itself to getting out very often so every chance I do get I’ve learned I need to make the most of it.

So, as you know, we’re impressed with Ryan Pavlovich Photography – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
I am a portrait, and lifestyle photographer specializing in minimalist images with a vintage soul. I’m probably most known for being easy going and pulling out the most honest moments from people while shooting.

As a company, I’d say I’m most proud of staying true to my beliefs and not letting myself do something because it’s the next cool thing.

What sets me apart from other photographers is my sense of blending a clean minimal style with something timeless, rock and roll, and with a bit more attitude.

Let’s touch on your thoughts about our city – what do you like the most and least?
I love LA for its mass diversity, chaos, and beauty in the grit. There’s no other place you can be in a dirty gritty part of town in the morning and head up to amazing mountain views, desert views, or ocean drops in the same day. That still blows my mind every time I leave the house. That and the weather here is really hard to beat.

As far as dislike, I’d have to go with probably everyone that’s ever been or lives here and say traffic of course. I tend to avoid it as much as humanly possible or ride the motorcycle but it’s just a part of being here I’ve learned. Other than that, I can’t say I have too many complaints, haha.
