Today we’d like to introduce you to Ryan “Bosco” Baker.
Ryan, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I moved out to LA from Minneapolis to dance professionally. I did the whole starving artist thing and waited tables until I could make enough money to support myself by performing & teaching full time. I’ve always been interested in how to do things myself, so I bought a camera to take my own headshots. That eventually led to traveling & teaching full time, shooting drone video of the places I traveled, and transitioning from dance to photography & video work.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Not at all! But I don’t think that’s unique to me. Any artist working to support themselves by doing what they love is going to have challenges, ESPECIALLY in Los Angeles. There’s simply too many talented humans living here. Even when I was fortunate enough to book a gig, that wasn’t a guarantee of future work or financial security. The struggle is worth it if you love what you’re doing though. So you stick.
Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about Look Fly– what should we know?
My company is named Look FLY. I specialize in drone video for artists, businesses, even real estate. I honestly don’t think I’m known for any of that yet, so thank YOU for the opportunity to share with your readers! That’s a great place to be at. I know I have work to do, and I’m excited at the process of growth and the prospect of new opportunities. I just want to learn more, get better, and provide better content. I think I’m most proud that I’m willing to start something new. I am constantly reminding myself that “This is not enough, work more. Do better.” What sets me apart? I get to travel & work full time with my beautiful woman Maddy. We road trip everywhere, and get to see beautiful areas of the world we may not have been able to otherwise visit. 10-15 hour roadtrip days? No problem 🙂
Is there a characteristic or quality that you feel is essential to success?
Knowing that “Many are successful, very few are great.” That’s Dr. Cornel West, and that’s the best answer ever. I aim to be better person first. The rest will figure itself out.
