Today we’d like to introduce you to Ruby Lim.
Ruby, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
Exactly 13 years ago, a thought of becoming an Esthetician came into mind and without any hesitation, I contacted a school who offered evening classes. Two weeks later, I started going to a beauty school in the evening right after work. I used to have a corporate career and was with my former company for 20 years. A year after that, I quit my full time career and took the risk of starting my new career of which shocked many and thought I was crazy for leaving my job. NO regrets.
Then just recently, in January 1st, a very unselfish lady, Tanis Rhines, gave me more opportunities by turning over her business of 12 years, The Garden Spa’t. Now, my new business setting is what I have been dreaming for years I would have someday…and the someday is here. I’m humbled and blessed!
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
No, it wasn’t a smooth road: some bad decisions (I didn’t know any better) regarding the taking over of a business during the early years which resulted in financial losses; and loss of several clients because of the move and changes.
Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about Roobz @The Garden Spa’t – what should we know?
We are in the skincare and eyelash extensions business. Started out offering skincare service only but expanded to offering eyelash extensions several months later. Eventually, after just a year, eyelash extensions became a more desired service over skincare by clients. So for the past 7 years, our focus is on the eyelash services.
Being one of the pioneers in eyelash extensions (brought to the USA in 2004 and I got trained in 2005) and eventually became a trainer myself, our spa is known as one of the better if not the best place to get eyelash extensions. As a company, we are proud to say that we highly regard and appreciate our clients and these are reflected through our skills, the high quality work we’ve done and are continuing to do, the use of good quality products, and most of all, our concern for our clients’ safety.
We are most proud and thankful for many of our clients have been with us for over 8 years, some even a decade. And, with the new addition of new skincare services, we hope and look forward to additional growth in clientele.

Trained by Lin Mckinstry (3D Beauty) in 2005: excellent instructor who emphasized the importance of proper application in eyelash extensions. Mentor: Emiko who saw my potential, was very persistent, and took extra time to mentor me.
