Meet Robyn, the founder and curator of The Kit Vintage in West Hollywood Miracle Mile

Today we’d like to introduce you to Robyn, the founder and curator of The Kit Vintage.

Robyn, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I started collecting vintage Levi’s when I was just 15 years old…and the obsession started from there! Anywhere I traveled, I felt compelled to search for vintage. It became my “Go To”. If I had an event, a party, a place to be seen, my only choice would be to wear those special, one of kind vintage pieces that I’ve been collecting. It was and still is the way for me to ‘wear what I feel”, to dress the way that makes me look, act, and feel like me! Not to mention, being the only one in the room in a one of kind piece feels so good! And so it goes…

My career started as a fashion editor for various magazines in New York City. I learned the business of fashion, editorial, publishing, and styling. After I packed on the experience of working in fashion for 15 years, I wanted to stay close to where my roots in fashion all began in VINTAGE!

Our brick and mortar store shares a space with my husband, Larry Platt of Platt Boutique Jewelry. The combination of Platt’s elaborate collection of fine antique and vintage jewelry perfectly complements The Kit’s assortment of luxury vintage clothing.

Our Name: The Kit Vintage

Our Name, The Kit, Comes From my background as a Stylist and Fashion Editor. Our “Kit” was everything we needed to make our client comfortable and taken Care of. It was everything we needed to have with us in order to work with our clients. Our Kit was truly our daily “ESSENTIALS”.

Has it been a smooth road?
There have certainly been bumps in the road. Although I consider myself extremely lucky to have had a great support system from the very beginning. My husband offered me wall space in his last store location where I started my business with one rack of clothing. My belief system was that I already had a built-in clientele and finding all of the vintage lovers who I could help find their perfect looks would be simple… that was not the case! With that being said, I would say awareness and exposure has been the most challenging in building my business.

We’d love to hear more about your business.
We are a women’s vintage boutique in Los Angeles. We specialize in Eventwear, Special Occasion pieces. That is what we are known for. We cater to the modern bride who is looking for her alternative wedding dress. To bridesmaids, and mothers of the bride! We dress those ladies who want to wear something unique and one of a kind to their events, weddings, gala’s, red carpets, etc..

I truly LOVE what I do. Curating the collection is the most fun. Finding the very best pieces for my clientele. Styling the women who come in to make sure they feel their absolute most confident and beautiful selves. We offer them a full experience, styling them from head to toe. It is pure joy when we see our clients light up when they come out of the fitting room loving the way they feel in our pieces. Everyone who comes in gets our full attention. The environment in our boutique is intimate and safe. This sets us apart from everyone else.

I am proud of the service that we offer to our clientele, being able to be their source to come to when they are looking for truly something special to wear.

Is our city a good place to do what you do?
I do think Los Angeles is a great city for vintage. Hollywood has always been a glamorous place to live because of the film industry. There are often events being thrown and galas to attend. Women are more and more realizing how special it is to be wearing very personalized, one of a kind pieces to stand out from the crowd.
