Meet Robert Lozano

Today we’d like to introduce you to Robert Lozano.

Robert, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I’ve been asked this question quite a few times and most find it difficult to believe that when I gained an interest in photography, I knew absolutely NO one into photography whatsoever. I know it mind sound cliché but I’ve always been intrigued by various types of art for as long as I could remember.

I used to draw a lot in my grade school years and all throughout high school off and on. When I got to high school dance really caught my attention, particularly Bboying (break dancing) which I still do every now and then. I used to like taking pictures of shows and competitions my friends and myself participated in, with a point and shoot of course. Skipping forward a few years, I had children and I love capturing moments of them. One day I realized how much I love being behind the camera and the whole art aspect of photography. So I decided to research cameras that I could have more control over and purchase one. Since then, I have been teaching myself with books, videos, and A LOT of practice. I progressively started getting more freelance work.

Photography and dancing has helped me get through some rough patches of my life and I find a sense of peace in the art. My two sons now shoot with me and I really want to give a lot of credit to them. Some of my most popular photos would not have been possible without their assistance. They constantly motivate, create and inspire me.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
This has definitely NOT been a smooth road. As I stated before, I didn’t know where to start it was like learning a whole new language. At times I just wanted to give up and not even pursue photography at all. Other factors as well like lack of motivation, patience, funds, and time. But like always, I didn’t give up. Thanks to all the available resources now that really helped me to grow and learn. What helped me the most was simply the hands-on experience and practice, practice, practice.

I feel the photography industry is one of the quickest markets in which to become displaced. Just because what you are doing today is working well does not mean it will carry the same success next year. If you put all of your focus on one thing, where will you be if it fails? You have to consciously break your mindset. Change is inevitable, and you must change what you are doing every once in a while in order to retain your popularity with clients. If you produce the same thing day after day, it will become boring and lose client interest. You do not have to set out each day to reinvent the wheel, but be prepared to make adjustments to it every once in a while.

We’d love to hear more about your business.
My business name has changed from Rawthentik Images to simply Robert Lozano Photography due to the goal of appealing to diverse consumers. I am using my website and Instagram as a portfolio/gallery to view my work. I have done a lot of different genres of photography such as landscape, portraits, events, real estate, engagement, graduation, auto, fashion, street and lifestyle. This past couple of years I have made an impression for the prints I have been selling of local scenery.
