Meet Ricardo Basta of Ricardo Basta Fine Jewelry in Century City

Today we’d like to introduce you to Ricardo Basta.

Ricardo, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I actually came to this country to see if I even liked it here besides picking up a job. My Uncle had a jewelry manufacturing shop in Beverly Hills and as a young 20-something, where else is there to be? I set aside a few months to try my hand at becoming a jeweler and went through the typical humility, with some success and I saw a strong potential future in this work. The strongest bottom line to my career is to always finish what work you have today because you never know what tomorrow will bring. It keeps a great work pace to challenge this on a daily basis.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
As long as I have been in business, I don’t think anyone can say anything has been smooth, myself included. The greatest struggles we have had were economy driven. Don’t get me wrong, we have been busy as a mainstay throughout most economic times, but it did get thin at times! I would switch gears for my jewelers to make sure they always had a job to come to and never have had to turn away my staff. It would have killed me to not be able to keep my jewelers working – they are my family, we’ve worked together for so long. I knew the economic pendulum always swings and better times would come back. That actually is another struggle we’ve had to balance – having too much work! It’s all good!
