Today we’d like to introduce you to Reonna Green.
Hi Reonna, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I am more than just your typical trial attorney, I am an innovator, protector, advocate, and the Founder of She Trademarks. My firm provides women business owners and those within the beauty industry the tools and resources to succeed and propel their careers. My involvement in the beauty industry began at 16 when I became a licensed manicurist and by 17, I was a licensed cosmetologist. As I honed in on my craft as a hairstylist and manicurist, I attended UC Berkeley, where I graduated with a Bachelors in Legal Studies. After undergrad, I attended the University of Oklahoma College of Law and became an attorney known for my grit, resourcefulness, and compassion. As I climbed the corporate ladder, I was faced with many barriers and was oftentimes the only woman of color present in a leadership role. Instead of letting adversity shake my purpose, I integrated my love for the beauty industry and the law to create She Trademarks, a firm for the female entrepreneur. My reasonable concerns include that the beauty industry is a billion-dollar industry; however, the driving force, women, are not reaping all the benefits of their creativity and are not adequately protected, leaving them vulnerable. As a fellow member of the beauty industry and legal profession, I understand what it’s like to be a visionary while at the same time having ideas overlooked and disregarded. She Trademarks is only the beginning of how I plan on restructuring the business world in favor of women’s perspective.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
The journey to being a trial attorney and Founder of She Trademarks was not a smooth ride. However, the challenges that I had to face and overcome led me to create my own practice. One of the first challenges I faced included being a full-time law student and cosmetologist. After overcoming those challenges, I was excited to climb the ladder in hopes of becoming a respected attorney. Unfortunately, I was met with adversities such as being overlooked for opportunities that I was qualified for, being disregarded and fighting for a voice in an environment that favored men. With my love for the beauty industry still prevalent in my life, I looked for a way to combine the two very different careers in a way that honored both my past and present careers. The lessons and experiences I gathered in the workforce helped me integrate my passion for the law, the beauty industry, and my desire to see all women win. I’ve experienced first-hand the challenges that come with being a woman in a male-dominated industry. So, providing a seat at the table for women entrepreneurs and beauty professionals who need protection was essential to me.
Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about She Trademarks?
I created She Trademarks to provide women business owners the tools and resources to succeed and propel their careers. The beauty industry is a billion-dollar industry and women are the driving force. However, many women entrepreneurs are often not legally protected in the same capacity as their male counterparts. She Trademarks is an active participant in reshaping the dynamic between women business owners and the beauty industry by putting them in the driver’s seat with the proper tools for longevity. She Trademarks services include trademark search and application, business formation and legal entities, as well as lawyer drafted contracts and templates. She Trademarks is different from any other firm because women can rely on me to provide a personable experience as I too am a lover of all things beauty and know the challenges of being a woman business owner.
The crisis has affected us all in different ways. How has it affected you and any important lessons or epiphanies you can share with us?
I’ve acquired many lessons during the pandemic, precisely the act of balance. Amid the pandemic, I was balancing my full-time job as a trial attorney and building the foundations of She Trademarks. This left me no other choice but to adopt a system that allowed me to be present in both areas of my career life. Not only did I have to show up the best version of myself in the workplace, but I also had to create time and space for She Trademarks. I relied on my expertise as an attorney more than ever to be an asset in the workplace, leaned on my passion and determination to help women business owners, and utilized social media strategies in a non-conventional framework as an attorney. The truth is, the pandemic showed us that most jobs can be done from home, so I knew it was imperative to take advantage of a moment that allowed us all to slow down. Instead of letting the pandemic hinder the growth of my company, I relied on the fact that my passion aligns with a needed service within the beauty industry that can help women expand personally and professionally.
