Meet Travis and Pernille Duddy of Redbook Photography

Today we’d like to introduce you to Travis and Pernille Duddy.

Travis and Pernille, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
We are a husband and wife duo, based out of Riverside, Ca. We met while living in Santa Barbara and studying photography. Our first shoot together was on Valentine’s day of 2007 in Newport Beach. Since then we have photographed over 60 weddings together and hope for many more. We love to photograph wedding because it is a very special moment between two people. Being invited to capture that means a great deal to us. After all the wedding glory is over and the flowers have wilted, the cake has been eaten, the guests have gone home and the caterer tosses the leftovers, the images are what lasts. They are what goes on the wall of their first home, what sits on their coffee table. Images are what their children will love as a child and cherish when their parents have passed on. This is what we consider when photographing our wedding. We also just photographed our first international destination wedding in Hautvillers, France. The engagement session was in Paris and the reception was in nearby Reims at a wonderful landmark named Palai Du Tau. It was truly a royal affair. We continue to photograph wedding in Los Angeles, Santa Barbara, San Diego, Orange and Riverside counties.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Getting starting is always rough. Funding and finding our niche has taken time and dedication. There has been a whole lot of rejection along the way. I once heard there is no such thing as a starving artist, if you are starving you suck at art. Luckily, we have found our client base and rely solely on references at this point. Though, we are going to be marketing much more in 2017.

We’d love to hear more about your business.
Our passion sets us apart. The quality of our work speaks for itself and we are much more affordable than most think. We are most proud of our France wedding.

What were you like growing up?
A passion for photography was apparent at early ages for both Pernille and I. I remember getting a Voltron camera as a gift from my cousin John at about age 6 and later my first real Canon at about age 10. I was in love. I may have created the selfie with a disposable camera in 1997. FYI. Pernille was notorious for getting into old scrapbooks as a child. There was never a time that she dreamed of being anything else but a photographer. She attended Brooks Institute immediately after high school getting her bachelors in Portraiture in 2008. Since then we have done nothing but photography. Photography has, and always will be our entire life.
