Meet Raghav Reddy

Today we’d like to introduce you to Raghav Reddy.

Hi Raghav, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I have forever been enthusiastic about making stuff and movies. Art has been my dearest companion since I was four years of age. I used to make cartoons on the rear of my journals and classwork areas. Later sought after the visual depiction in school and functioned as a visual originator for a major MNC in India. Things took a course when I was asked to art direct a commercial when I was about to visit the set since movies and television generally energized me. That set caused me to understand that this job was sufficiently not enough and I want to make my profession in film and TV. I chose to relinquish my position and moved to Los Angeles to try my life out. The excursion couldn’t be simple. I have been a devotee of the idea of self-amusing. After cold reaching hundreds of people from the industry. Some of them took a chance on me, I started as a PA in different independent films, and as a PA, I was always drawn to the art department. Eventually, I got offers for set dressing, art director, and production design. I am incredibly grateful for all the opportunities I got and for leading me to some great productions and connections.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Well, The biggest struggle was the cultural difference and how to talk to people since it was a different story in India. LA is more upfront and straightforward which I like about this city. It took me a while to get used to the city. I didn’t know anyone here and still took a chance on myself to live the American dream. I remember saying to my roommate that “maybe this city s not for me” but he said one thing ” Maybe you are just giving up with a few tries”. It’s so easy to see things happening in shows and movies but in reality, nothing comes in handy. I remember I used to stand outside WB studios waiting for people to come and ask for any work but didn’t work out. I always heard the same thing from every person I met and now know from Industry “the industry is all about people we know” and also about skills but to get your foot in the door you need contacts and that’s how my journey started. In the beginning, A producer gave me my first job as PA and then I work as Production Designer or something in the art department. I didn’t have a car, so to travel to sets I use to leave my home at 2 am and 3 am to travel by bus and train to be early before call times of 5 am or 6 am. I am very thankful to my family who supported me in the beginning when I was not earning.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I usually work as Director and Production Designer or something in the art department. I am known for directing many short films and for my fashion and artistic approach. I am proud and thankful to be working every day and earning to live my livelihood. I mean what sets me apart is the value of every living and nonliving thing in my life and the energy I possess for them. I put my heart and soul into every project and work on it as if it’s my last work which gives me the motivation to bring the best out of them on my part.

Any big plans?
The plan is to slowly transition from commercials to working on TV shows and movies more often which become historic marks like friends, gossip girl, Avatar, and Marvel. Already working on them and am excited for the lined-up projects to get into action. 2023 started on a very great start already. Big changes are rather than knowing things I am trying to just learn and observe as much as possible.
