Today we’d like to introduce you to Rae Siskind.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Rae. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
My name is Rae Siskind. I’m originally from Boston. I’ve always been an athlete participating in various sport – track, football, basketball and lacrosse in junior high, high school and college. I’ve always wanted to gain muscle mass, train my muscles to fulfil their potential, you know. So, sometime after college while living in Atlanta I hired a trainer, Mark Gates. This was in 1996 and to this day Mark is still an elite trainer. While training with Mark I became certified in sports science. Being the clear-eyed person I am I immersed myself into the process. I achieved a satisfactory level of balance in my life because I grew to understand my body, myself beyond just the physical but mentally and psychologically. During this time I formed some invaluable relationships with like-minded people who encouraged me to train clients. Since I’ve worked with clients from all walks of life – professional athletes, housewife, executives, celebrities etc.
Has it been a smooth road?
A journey without obstacles is dull and leaves the traveler without character growth. I used to struggle and still do with lazy people. If you can’t afford a trainer walk in the park. Go hiking. Do something. Then some can afford a trainer but they deny themselves the potential of having a balance well being because of money. They fail to value their health, the well being of not only themselves but their families and the society at large when you think about it. My philosophy is not just rooted in motivating a client but teaching my client to amalgamate mind-body and higher self. And in so doing this becomes a way of life causing a positive ripple effect on their overall life. Unfortunately, a lot of people see what I do, and other like-minded trainers purely from an aesthetic perspective. I see myself more than a “trainer”.
So, as you know, we’re impressed with Symmetry Fitness – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of and what sets you apart from others.
As mentioned above – my business is a personalized fitness/ life coaching in all aspects of life – gaining a good grasp on physical, mental and spiritual of self.
In 2003-2007 I owned a gym, Diamond Bodies on Pico near Labrea. I’m most proud of that facility because I made it very possible for the local community to be a part of it. Membership was very, very affordable, I gave free access to single mothers and obese kids. Also, I am proud of the lives I’ve helped to transform – seeing clients come in – insecure, emotionally frail, bad eating habits changed their lives. Today they’re still living in their achieved success.
I guess I’m as different as my fingerprint is to the next person. LOL. Well, my life grew out of a strong spiritual upbringing. I think that gives me a good gauge on how to read and understand people. This helps me to better guide my clients on becoming the best version of themselves.
Let’s touch on your thoughts about our city – what do you like the most and least?
The weather! LOL! I came for a visit and I was like, yes! I’m moving here. Also the whole health and fitness consciousness. How contrasting the city was, the beaches, hiking in the hills, go snowboarding in the mountains. And it’s ethnic diversity.
I’m sorry but “Follywood’s” intolerable pretentiousness. I’m sure it’s not the first time you heard that. LOL! The air quality. My weather app tells me not to go outside because the air quality is dangerous. The legal system – C’mon, I got an $80 ticket for walking across the street. Have they heard about NYC? Anyway, on a more serious note… I’m moved to the core with the homeless problem in this city. It tears me apart to see the suffering.
