Meet Rachel Gagliardi of Bratty Official

Today we’d like to introduce you to Rachel Gagliardi.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Rachel. So, let’s start at the beginning, and we can move on from there.
I’m a Virgo and a touring musician, who spent the past few years playing in the bands Slutever and Upset. Joining Upset was such a dream for me, as our drummer Patty Schemel, used to be in Hole, one of my all time favorite bands. I now focus my efforts on Pouty, my solo project. I’m so excited about my new EP which was released earlier this month!

I live with my spouse, Tony and our pup, Shrimp Toast in a magical little dream cottage with a pool and a citrus grove. We spend most of our time sourcing vintage, traveling, or hanging at home, listening to tapes and records.

Has it been a smooth road?
Vintage is a really hard game to be a part of; it’s all about finding just the right fit, the right price, and the right client. In LA it can be very oversaturated with other sellers and hard to stick to your own voice. I see a lot of people who are just selling what everyone else is selling instead of working to finesse their own tone and voice. I often find it challenging to believe in myself and my vision, but at the end of the day, there is nothing else I’d rather be doing than hunting for beautiful & special wardrobe pieces and getting them to their perfect owners.

So, as you know, we’re impressed with Bratty Official – tell our readers more, for example, what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
Bratty Official is a one-woman operation I started when I moved back to LA after spending a year living on the East Coast. I was working at a really amazing vintage shop in Philadelphia and found myself becoming obsessed with buying and selling vintage clothing. I made a conscious decision that once I moved back to LA, I wanted to become my own boss and run a small business in a way I truly felt passionate about.

With an emphasis on handmade and 1970s items, Bratty is all about a soft, romantic aesthetic. I sell in person every month at the Rose Bowl Flea, which is one of the best vintage markets on the planet! I also offer private appointments at my house so people can shop the racks without having to deal with the frantic flea market energy. You can find me online selling on depop, Etsy, and my own website.

Let’s touch on your thoughts about our city – what do you like the most and least?
I’m in love with the visual scenery of LA. I find looking at mountains highly inspiring, and constantly feel like i’m incredibly lucky to live in California. I hate cold weather, I’m originally from Philadelphia and finally had to escape the harsh winters for the Southern Cali dream climate!!

My favorite thing to do in LA is thrift and hunt around for scores…I’m obsessed with mushrooms, I have a whole mushroom shrine in my living room with all my most beloved trinkets, patches, books, and other fungal figurines. I’m also addicted to buying books, I can’t resist walking into any used bookstore I see or spending hours at estate sales looking through piles of old books. Specifically, any book on astrology, herbalism, past lives, or meditation. I curate a selection of metaphysical books at Open Eye Crystals, one of my favorite spots in LA.
