Today we’d like to introduce you to @POWOW.tv.
So, before we jump into specific questions, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
POWOW.tv started as a way to keep being creative between gigs and to connect with other creative people. It is an outlet to keep making our own content between other things. Something consistent and continuous. It also allows people to express and share their ideas and opinions and vision, as well as our team to hone their editing and other skills. POWOW was founded by Laura Arten.
Has it been a smooth road?
It’s never smooth. But it’s been fun. Our incredible editor / VFX person, Alejandra Gonzalez Castillo, has been incredible and absolutely crucial in executing the vision to the T. She really got the vision and she is amazing in putting in the work. Editing is a very time consuming job and you truly hav etc love it to do it, certainly if it is not for big bucks. She’s the horse dragging the whole cart frankly, I owe her everything 🙂 Without her the vision for this would have stayed just that. We also have a new addition to the team, our lovely intern Nick Bini.
We are really proud of being an International team; Laura from London, Nick is in Adelaide and Alejandra is from Spain. It is really important to us to have diverse team. Global collaborations are the future…
We’d love to hear more about your work and what you are currently focused on. What else should we know?
We are creating content that is very pop culture and comedy centric from an unfiltered and uncensored millennial viewpoint. It definitely has an OTT and TMI aspect to it, especially since many of our guests are comics. We discuss anything and everything, from politics to abortion to porn to love and relationships. No holds barred. We find that there is discrepancy between mainstream media and what and how people talk about when they aren’t censored or trying to be politically correct. For instance, many videos talking about porn or abortion get demonetized or just simply barred. Why? Why is there a need to still make certain things taboo? The USA is currently #1 porn consumer in the world (yes, even Japan is behind) and 1 in 3 women had abortion.
This show occupies a space that is not crude or disrespectful but simply real and honest. And, of course, the visual language. Who doesn’t love pop art? It indeed is for everybody and directly references Andy Warhol’s prediction of 15 minutes of fame ( we are now moving into the 15 seconds… 🙂
Let’s touch on your thoughts about our city – what do you like the most and least?
The weather and possibilities versus the distance to everywhere and car reliance. Certain superficiality as well.
