Meet Philomene and Maureen Simon of Simon’s all Natural Soap in Encino and Santa Clarita

Today we’d like to introduce you to Philomene and Maureen Simon.

Philomene and Maureen, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
We started making soap as gifts for friends and family after a while a good friend of ours who suffered from eczema had really great results after using our soap. She along with others encouraged us to start selling it because it was unlike anything they have ever used before. Then in the summer of 2017, we started Simon’s all Natural Soap to provide a better option in skin care for people of all skin types. We then started selling our products at local farmer’s markets and that eventually grew our clientele. It was the best way for us to expand our business and product line. We later received invitations to different events like street fairs and boutiques. As we grew the idea of having a store turned into a reality in the fall of 2019. Today we are still selling at local farmers’ markets, online, and at our store but we have more ideas and a long way to go.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Every business has its challenges for us, it was getting our name out there in any way possible.

Separately we had our own challenges for me it was finding a balance to do this and school at the same time, learning all the legal sides of the business, and learning how to do web design and graphic design for our labels and website.

For my mother, it was finding a way to make sure she had time to make the soap to keep up the inventory while working a full-time job as well as finding the right people to work for us when we opened our store.

So, as you know, we’re impressed with Simon’s all Natural Soap – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
We specialize in handmade skin care products such as soaps, lotions, essential oils, and more. We want people to see the benefits of using natural ingredients for their skin so we rely on the power of herbs. One of the biggest problems we have seen is dry skin. That’s why we make all our soaps with pure essential oils and herbs that help clean your skin without drying it. We also offer stones and crystals, spiritual waters, smudge sticks, and other cleansing tools that help one get in touch with their spiritual side so they can find balance and positivity in their lives.

As a company, we are most proud of pushing the boundaries of what a small business can achieve. We are very hands-on in everything we do from the making of each product to the designs of the labels to the set up of our store. Apart from other stores, we want our customers to understand what they are buying so they don’t feel oversold on a product. The goal is to make you feel comfortable and educated when you are shopping with us.

So, what’s next? Any big plans?
In the future, our goal is to establish a team of soapmakers that we can entrust with upholding our values in creating our products. As well as expanding our locations and product line.
