Meet Paz Kinnaman of Paz Kinnaman Photography in Long Beach

Today we’d like to introduce you to Paz Kinnaman.

So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
Originally from Bogotá, Colombia, I moved the USA at 18, when my father ––an internationally known painter –– decided to move our family here. I followed in his footsteps, studying fine arts at La Sierra University, where I graduated in 2007. While an art student, I began experimenting with photography and videography. I gained a fairly successful YouTube following for my early video work, but slowly switched my emphasis as photography became my main passion.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
It depends what we are defining by “smooth”… Like any independent business owner all the responsibility of my business depends on me. So I would say its smooth fort moments, but also challenging.

Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about Paz Kinnaman Photography – what should we know?
I pursued the art of photography for several years, honing my skills just for the love of it, before I ever even considered doing it commercially. Since making the switch to commercial photography, I’ve always retained a firm commitment to bringing an artistic vision to whatever I do, romanticizing ordinary life and elevating it beyond something mundane –– trying to catch something sublime in every shot.

In 2011, with the birth of my beautiful daughter, Lúthien, I discovered a source of unending inspiration in capturing the wonders of early childhood though the camera lens. From 2012 to 2013, we moved our small family to Florence, Italy, which further inspired my aesthetic development, with its rich textures, colors and sense of history. California will always be home to me! I split my time between Fallbrook (in the San Diego area) and LA, where I have been quite actively engaged in various photography-related projects, since returning from Italy. I put my heart in every image I work on.

Any shoutouts? Who else deserves credit in this story – who has played a meaningful role?
My family play a big role in my success! They had seeing me going through the bumps and success. Their support has been crucial on my career.
