Today we’d like to introduce you to Paul Taublieb.
So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
Everything we do at TAUBLIEB Films is story driven and this comes from background as an award-winning journalist, having been a NYC writer and editor for publications from The Washington Post, The Village Voice, US Magazine, NY Times and Surfer and Surfing magazines. I transitioned from the printed word, where I was once submitted for a Pulitzer Prize for investigative journalism, to the video production and then tv and film.
On the drama side, we specialize in fact-based stories from my journalism background, most notably leading to the true-life inspired feature film “The Vow,” starring Channing Tatum, which grossed $200 million at the box office, along with award-winning, fact-based television movies for Showtime, NBC and CBS.
Our main specialty is in motorsports and action sports, and our work includes being a consultant on the creation of the ESPN X Games and then producing live content for them for 0ver 15 years, and still making short-form content for them to this day. We have become known for long-form documentaries, including the ESPN 30 for 30 film, “Hawaiian: The Legend of Eddie Aikau”, which won an Emmy Award as part of Best Documentary Series, and more recently here in 2017, “UNCHAINED: The Untold Story of Freestyle Motocross,” which I wrote, produced and directed, which won an Emmy for Outstanding Long Sports Documentary of the year.
We also make short form content for clients from Monster Energy to Ferrari, and viral videos like “Uncle Memo,” a soccer spoof video with over 200 million views.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Our path has been a challenging one, but probably no more so than everyone in the entertainment business. It’s a balance of art and commerce, and always adopting to the needs of the marketplace and the client. It’s bloody on the bleeding edge and you have to stay there to stay alive!
Please tell us about TAUBLIEB Films.
We specialize in story-driven content, told in true cinematic style. We find the essence of a story and then express is with elegant, compelling visuals and bringing characters and human drama to life — all told with classic structure architecture, even if that internal story skeleton is invisible. We’re also incredible responsive to our clients’ needs – whether a network or a brand — while providing truly creative solutions that resonate with consumers and viewers.
If you had to go back in time and start over, would you have done anything differently?
Go bigger, bolder, harder.
