Meet Paolino Photography

Today we’d like to introduce you to Paolino Photography.

Every artist has a unique story. Can you briefly walk us through yours?
I was born in Genoa, Italy.

At 14 years of age, I borrowed his Mom’s Kodak Instamatic and armed with analog films from his grandfather, I started shooting random moments of my life. I think my love with photography is due to the realization that it is a way to freeze memories that would otherwise be lost.

When I moved to the US, in 2000, I purchased my 1st (of many) digital camera and realized – coupled with my knowledge of Adobe Photoshop – the full potential of this new media, equal to having my own personal darkroom, limited only by the creativity in my head.

After shooting at a friend’s wedding, I was commissioned by various individuals for portraits.

So I guess that’s how I started my career!

Please tell us about your art.
I like to photograph people, like portraits.

However, these are often too static for my sense of creativity, so by exploring various shooting and lighting techniques, I discovered I could open the doors to more artistic styles, such as editorials, alternative, and avant-garde.

In my art, I like to express the feelings and moods that his models have inside, in that one special, irreplaceable moment. To me, this is a way to capture one’s self, in a personal, vision of the world.

What do you think is the biggest challenge facing artists today?
I think that omnipresence of social media, sometimes tends to dilute the emerging good artists in an ocean of “everyday instagrammers” so by absurd, gives less visibility to the ones who deserve it.

Also, the accessibility of the editing and retouching techniques, relaxes the need of the true photography process, the artistic idea, vision and execution that is due, even in today’s digital world.

This is why I believe we need venues like Voyage LA to help establishing a high quality standard and promote it!

How or where can people see your work? How can people support your work?
Part of my Editorial/Fashion works is displayed on Crevado.

For all other photos, both personal and professional, I am active daily on Instagram.

I sometimes participate in local exhibitions, usually I prefer the alternative, new venues rather than the classic art galleries. I think it matches more my persona.
