Today we’d like to introduce you to Jocelyn Fee Miller.
Jocelyn, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
In 1986, I was born. I lasted 15 years at home before I had to drop out of high school for lack of meaning – lack of purpose – and an abundance of feeling misunderstood – this led me to 22 months living at a remote “emotional growth” boarding school, where I completed high school education and began my healing exploration.
From there, I spent many years breathing into heavy layers of grief >>> depression, anxiety and an assortment of “opportunities for growth” including many years studying the human condition through the arts, yoga and massage therapy.
At the age of 25, I became a first-time single mom to a beautiful girl Dolores Guadalupe Fee-Diaz who catapulted my growth through natural bathtub childbirth, modern family Co-parenting and platonic bed sharing… let’s just say ‘we created our own design’.
Next up! Two dear friends and I opened Sacred Roots Holistic Healing in Long Beach in 2012. This hub for community blossomed into a petri dish for scores of holistic practitioners and new holistic businesses. Eventually, (after years of glorious healing arts and community events) clients and students requested for me to create a state approved Bodywork + Healing Arts college – which my husband, Jason Miller and 30 plus esteemed colleagues cultivated from 2017-2020: Panacea Holistic Institute! With joy. – we announce our pioneer graduating class’ commencement on October 1st, 2020
During the process of building the school, I have started a podcast: The Self Love Line and a public radio show ‘Morning Intentions’ on KLBP Long Beach Public Radio.
I also had the chance to self publish our ‘Sacred Self Care Exploration Guide’ – a take home workbook reflective of our 20 plus focus groups held over five years.
Now, along with acting Dean of Healing arts at Panacea Holistic Institute, I am making music with my band Jane Free + the Earthlings… our debut ‘Single’ is releasing this month!
Has it been a smooth road?
All the obstacles have ignited creativity, open-mindedness and overall growth! But yes, the struggle is real!!!! I am grateful to have found ways to navigate possible disasters with loving kindness.
We built an 8 part “sacred agreements” code of ethics that has been a major aide in approaching relations, uncomfortable situations and transition.
So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the Panacea Holistic Institute story. Tell us more about the business.
We are known for an apprentice/master boutique educational experience. We are known for being rigorously silly and committed to emotional safety. We are known for being a green business advocate. A self-care advocate and suicide awareness champion.
We offer 5-star direct care body treatments at our essential medical facility, we offer virtual mindfulness classes and medical grade sound bath experiences weekly.
Our college offers a wide variety of bodywork and holistic modalities including entry-level course work for Sound Meditation, Ayurveda and TCM. With an emphasis on green business entrepreneurship, community service and operating from a full cup… SELF CARE PEOPLE!!! Specially crafted for those who are caregivers.
Each Panacea Bodywork + Healing Arts student creates a Community Service project as part of their graduation requirements, seeing the ripples of these projects has been most gratifying.
How do you think the industry will change over the next decade?
I see mindset coaching continuing to boom in the virtual realm and I see bodywork moving toward a more medical grade practice so that individuals can receive holistic care through insurance carriers.
I intend on all hospitals employing Holistic Healthcare Professionals (HHP) who utilize the modalities we train in our career college – All natural, relaxation-based Approaches to health.
