Today we’d like to introduce you to Paige Pelfrey.
Hi Paige, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I started in Kansas where I dreamt of taking my creativity to a big city, I just had no idea what that path could look like. I was in journalism school when I got the urge to pack up and head west for makeup school in Hollywood! I was the first in my family to take a nontraditional route, but I just couldn’t ignore the calling. I attended and graduated from Joe Blasco in Hollywood. After that, I dipped my toe into a few different markets. I spent time in NYC doing fashion week, then the Midwest doing commercial work and building a portfolio. After a few years, California was calling my name again and now I call LA home base. Today I am full-time freelancing doing hair and makeup, I also have a beautiful little family now.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Being a creative is a wild ride. It’s not linear at all so you have to be willing to embrace all that comes with it. I have had every job you can think of to support my dream, I did whatever it took to fuel the dream to move here and support myself and my art. I have worked as an assistant to high profile artist working seven days a week with some jobs being 15 hour days! In 2019 my partner Saagar and I were blessed with our son, this was tough to balance and the timing of the pandemic was also rough. However, we see the timing as a blessing from God so we could be home much more and adjust to being parents and spend time bonding to our sweet boy.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I am a freelance makeup artist and hairstylist. I work with brands doing campaigns for marketing and social media. I also shoot beauty content for beauty and skincare brands. I also do event-based makeup for celebrities and influencers.
We all have a different way of looking at and defining success. How do you define success?
Balance. When your work fuels the passions you have had your whole life that make you feel like yourself, and home grounds you and makes you see what really matters.
