Today we’d like to introduce you to Olivia Orozco and Golie Yazdy.
Radiant Space launched in June 2017 with a group show. Radiant Space is a multimedia gallery in the heart of West Hollywood, CA. At its core, they are a team of creatives who have bonded together to co-create a space for visual arts, film, dance, fashion, and multimedia installations. Their aim is to authentically present work that adds to the global conversation of what it means to have a human experience here and now.
The past six months have been a life changing experience for everyone involved. On the day-to-day, Olivia and Golie run the gallery founded by them and Sean Maurer and Daniel Elder. Having mixed passions in film, art and performing arts, the gallery became formed as a multipurpose space to house all of these interests.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
So far, the road has been pretty smooth. The main obstacle has been getting the word out about the brand but that is starting to happen now with more press and more recognition in our community. There’s a lot of trial and error, but we do our best to take stock of what works and constantly improve our company. We’ve had a strong team from the start.
So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the Radiant Space story. Tell us more about the business.
What sets us apart from other galleries is the fresh perspective of our diversity in the type of art we present. We have become a community hub in an area of Hollywood that very much needed meeting center for creative expression and appreciation. We provide a variety of creative and community-oriented events, such as sound baths, music and dance performances, spoken word nights, workout and yoga classes, pop-up markets, and we are open to ideas that people pitch to us. We are moving towards having film-screenings at our gallery, as well as pop-up events at other locations. We’ve partnered with other creative collectives and tech companies.
We take pride in the fact that our gallery is run day-to-day by two women leaders, Golie Yazdy and Olivia Mia Orozco. We enjoy bringing in female artists and doing shows that focus on the human experience. For our Divine Feminine art show we featured a female artist, Riley A. Polek-Davis as well as a male artist, Makan Negahban, to highlight the feminine essence within us all. Our current installation by Laurie Shapiro, “Before You Were Born” has a strong female energy to it as well, featuring portraits of female warriors as well as the soft essence of flowers.
Being a multi-media space, we specialize in offering a platform to artists of different backgrounds. The work varies from paintings, to sculptures, photography, installations. Our space is very inviting and inclusive.
Has luck played a meaningful role in your life and business?
We wouldn’t call it luck but this past year has proven that nothing is ever a waste. Every moment plays a role. We don’t always see the meaning or purpose at the time, but all of our roles in life outside of the gallery and leading up to now running the gallery provided us with the experience, and networks necessary for things to run as well as they have been.
Moments in the past that may have felt like bad luck in actually redirected all of us to the current path of fulfillment and success that gallery has brought us.
You could say it’s lucky to have a job that incorporates our love for art, dance, film and fashion, but it often feels more than luck, it feels right and meant to be. The founders Sean and Dan asked us to bring their vision to life of opening a multi-media gallery. We hope that we all have people in our lives who recognize our talents and capabilities. One of the founders Dan Elder always says “Run with it.” We feel very lucky for this opportunity to create something bigger than ourselves by collaborating with people who inspire us.
