Today we’d like to introduce you to Olivia Korenberg and Jenn Pablo.
So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
Jenn and I met while working for a designer by the name of Katie Leede who was at the time based in Santa Monica. We immediately bonded over our obsession with all things creative. In between tasks we would often flip through the library or forage through piles of textiles dreaming up different schematics. After moving on from the firm – Jenn moved onto hospitality design while I remained in the residential interior design world. We always remained in touch and one day Jenn shared with me that she was thinking of establishing her own firm and wanted to gauge my interest in partnering up. Next thing we knew the papers had been filed and Twofold LA was born.
Has it been a smooth road?
I’m not sure there is such thing as a smooth road when starting your own business. While we had excellent models from previous firms to build upon you are always going to be in a sense re-inventing the wheel so as to create processes that works with your own philosophy. The most prominent struggle was our initial over estimation of how quickly we would be able to establish our footing with our own interiors clients. When we first started our firm, we signed onto a master bedroom, closet and bathroom renovation only to have it quickly put on hold when the owners got engaged. It was Jenn’s clever idea to pitch using Twofold’s services for the wedding so that we were able to keep the project albeit in a different form. From that point forward we decided to add event design and planning to our repertoire and it’s that sort of flexibility that has been able to propel us to excel in multiple creative disciplines.
We’d love to hear more about your business.
Twofold LA is a design firm that specializes in residential interior design, personal and corporate events as well as small scale production styling. By realizing that our design and project management skills could be put to use in other platforms we have set ourselves aside as a go to for all things creative. We have client’s that start as interior design Client’s calling upon us for event services and vice versa. In that way, we are able to form more lasting and intimate relationships with our Clients, tending to all of their creative and planning needs.
Prospective Clients often ask us what our style is, and we’ve had trouble answering that. What Jenn and I have discussed is that we want our Clients to function as the muses for the space whether we are designing for their home or for an event they are hosting. We do our best to remove ourselves from the project and practice active listening so that we can accurately evaluate their needs and wants. We like to think of ourselves as a filter thru which our Client’s vision passes through, making recommendations and guiding them towards solutions that are both aesthetic and functional. We are most proud when a Client expresses that we have successfully executed a concept that they themselves weren’t quite able to articulate.
Is our city a good place to do what you do?
Los Angeles is a wonderful place for a design business for many reasons but predominately because there is such tremendous access to an incredible array of inventory. We frequent the PDC to source fabric and furnishings and really enjoy speaking with our showroom reps to see if they have any new designs that maybe we wouldn’t know about off hand. If our Clients are investing in a high-ticket item they almost always want to see the piece in person or memo it to test in the space. We feel lucky to have so many incredible shops and showrooms around the Los Angeles area where we can pull directly from the showroom floor or take Clients on shopping excursions to show them quality up close and personal
