Meet Sharon Angel of A North Production

Today we’d like to introduce you to Sharon Angel.

Sharon, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I was born and raised in India. Lived there for 17 years of my life. I come from a privileged, well-known, conservative family. Growing up, I never knew pain or had a need for anything in life as everything was provided for me because of my family’s influence. But after moving to Canada for my Bachelor’s, I experienced a desperate need for freedom.

I went through a huge identity crisis as I didn’t understand what my life would be without my last name. I then went on an intense journey to find myself and what I believed in. I made it a point to get to know people who were unlike the ones I grew up with. So people who had no knowledge about the Indian culture, who were more liberal and free-thinking. These were the people I chose to spend time with. I experienced a whole new world as I started to intentionally travel. In my journey to find myself, I did not focus on school. The education system was different and that took a toll on me, to keep up with an entirely new system of learning. People say that it is easy to pick up things when you’re young-Not an education system that is a complete 180 from what I was used to for 17years of my life. It was a difficult journey as I failed a couple of classes to really learn how the system worked. But by the time I adapted to the system, my family said that it was time to move to a new country. It had been three years of struggle trying to find myself, learn a new system, make friends and begin to find roots in a new country.

When all of that was to be given away to be traded for something new AGAIN, I was mad and frustrated with my family. This move was purely for the family’s welfare as a whole and that meant, I had to put my life on hold and erase and rewrite my story. I was upset and yet, I decided to give it a shot. This time I found myself in Texas, again, not knowing anyone, another new education system, and new surrounding. I was determined to finish my degree, get a job and live life to find the freedom to pursue my dreams. And that’s exactly what I did. I didn’t pay attention to anyone, adamantly discarded all the distractions and finished my degree in three years. I got a job at a broadcasting company and moved to Virginia. I had finally found freedom to be my own self and live life to pursue my dreams in media and journalism.

My mindset has changed much through this journey. I’m free of the legalism, peer pressure and control. I have the power to reason for myself and equip myself with the skills that will help in accomplishing my dreams. I was in Virginia for three years, where I worked full time and completed my Master’s degree in film and cinema television. Today, I own a business “A North Production”, operating out of LA, with the sole purpose of helping young women like me, fight peer pressure. The business is to produce online content for small businesses and individual leaders to establish an online presence through, video and social media but the profits of my company go toward empowering women in India to become entrepreneurs. I want them to take their life in their own hands and fight societal pressures. The goal is to help women realize that they are one of a kind, in charge of their own destiny and can open doors for other women in their community to be unique.

Please tell us about A North Production.
As a company, we help corporate leaders and businesses establish an online presence. Most people are intimidated of social media and their company’s online competition. We help individuals and brands bring their vision to action with ease, and reach their intended audience. We are known for video production, social media strategy, content creation, marketing and branding.

Our business focuses not only on taking away the intimidation that media and the internet world brings to clients but has a message behind every story, ultimately  empowering women on the other side of the world. We are here to serve the intellectual and the outcast, hoping to bridge the gap between two widely different groups of people.

Do you look back particularly fondly on any memories from childhood?
Being on my grandfather’s lap. There was a sense of security and belonging when he held me so dearly. He was a man of service. In his full-time job and ministry, he lived to serve people even when he was at his most vulnerable times. He was a busy man as many people wanted his time and attention but first, he was my grandpa and he never let me think otherwise.
