Meet Nimi Adokiye

Today we’d like to introduce you to Nimi Adokiye.

Nimi, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I started when I was in high school with my first play Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory. I played the role of Grandma Georgina. We had staged makeup to make me look older. It was so much fun! I was bit by the acting bug and my life has never been the same. I moved to LA and have been pushing that passion ever since.

Has it been a smooth road?
A quote that often inspires me is “calm seas make poor sailors”. The struggle is real but it is what makes it all worth it. Acting is a constantly being told NO. The worst part is you rarely get to find out why the no. Was I too dramatic? Not dramatic enough? More Comedic? Did I project the right tone? Am I too tall? Too short? Is my makeup right? Did I have the right stance? Did I read this character right? Am I perfect but are there 13 other perfect girls and I lost the coin toss? How to improve when the direction is so vague? No, the road is never a smooth, but the bumps and the potholes and the turns make the adventure worth living.

We’d love to hear more about your work.
I am an actor. TV. Film. Commercial. I am still an up and comer but I hope in my career thus far I am known as someone who can capture the essence of the characters I am playing and execute honest representation.

What were you like growing up? Personality wise, interest wise, etc.
I was a wild child. Tom Boy always beating my brothers in anything we would compete at. I played sports and was oftentimes ruining the nice clothes my mom would buy me with grass stains. I grew up in Sugarland Texas and my favorite childhood memory would have to be spending time with my father before he passed away. I was a daddy’s girl and I always wanted to make him proud of me.
