Meet Nellie Zamascikova of ZAMMphotography in Santa Clarita

Today we’d like to introduce you to Nellie Zamascikova.

Nellie, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
It was my son who inspired me to get my very first DSLR camera. When he was born, I desperately wanted artistic, beautiful photographs of us. I took him to a commercial studio and what I got from them didn’t make me happy. “Are these kinds of photos going to be all the memories from my son’s childhood?’ Secretly from my husband, I bought the camera. After photographing for a couple of months, I realized that having a camera doesn’t make you a photographer. I signed up for local photography classes, where I learned how to use my camera, exposure, composition, and light. However, it wasn’t enough for me. I decided to go through the New York Institute of Photography program. Since then – I just shot nonstop. For the past nine years, I haven’t left my camera’s side and haven’t stop learning. And what started as a hobby quickly turned into a full-blown passion and ZAMMPHOTOGRAPHY business.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
At the beginning of my photography career, I was really disappointed when the photo session didn’t go the way as it was planned. It took me a while to stop blaming myself and understand how to prevent that particular situation from repeating again. That helped me to learn, do better next time, and be a professional photographer.

ZAMMphotography– what should we know? What do you do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
ZAMMphotography specializes in Newborn & Baby Photography, Family Photography, Maternity Photography and Event Photography.

My main specialty is newborn sessions. I do them in the comfort of my clients’ homes so that my clients can concentrate on what’s important – recovering from childbirth, both physically and emotionally, and caring for their new baby. The days after baby is born are like no other. I know what those days and nights feel like and I want to help parents stay in their “only them and baby ” world as long as possible. That’s why I bring my newborn set-up to them. A lot of my prices form my collection of props are knitted and sewed by me so they are exclusive. My style is “all about the baby” simple.

I love maternity sessions because not only do I treasure every single pregnant woman but it also helps me to get to know the couple before the newborn session.

Baby and Family sessions are very important for me as well. I love to see my little clients again and again, just as much as to meet new families.

I do some event photography as well: birthday parties, sweet-sixteen, small wedding, baby and bridal showers and e.t.c. I have been photographing fundraisings and educational events for Parkinson’s Foundation and Parkinson’s Community LA.

What is “success” or “successful” for you?
Sleepless nights, hard work, tons of learning, overcoming your own fears and doubts to reach your goal. Finally, realizing that you will only succeed by helping others succeed.
