Meet Neferteri Plessy of Single Moms Planet in Santa Monica

Today we’d like to introduce you to Neferteri Plessy.

Neferteri, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I founded Single Moms Planet after my five-year marriage came to an end. I experienced firsthand the unique challenges that face single mothers because I grew up in a single mother household. After my divorce, I struggled like many new single moms to find balance, identity, self-fulfillment, and financial security. Like most single moms, first and foremost among my concerns was my children and how to ensure a happy stable life for them. I began to research the effects of single motherhood, and through my studies, I learned that over one-third of all children in America are being raised by single mothers.

After searching high and low, much to my disappointment, I found no organization solely dedicated to empowering, uplifting and educating single mothers. Possessing a vision, passion and having spent a year gathering concerns from single mothers in my life, I launched Single Moms Planet, a nationwide movement designed to educate, empower, and uplift single mothers and their children.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
We have been blessed to have many successes with Single Moms Planet. There have been some bumps and challenges along the way but we have always found a way to persevere and have continued to keep our doors open.

Challenges along the way:

• Getting and qualifying for grants.
• Corporate sponsorship.
• Donations.
• Letting the world know that we exist, which gives people access to us.
• Keeping our Programs Running sometimes with little to no support.

So, as you know, we’re impressed with Single Moms Planet – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
Single Moms Planet was created to expose single mothers to a space of creative, limitless opportunity fueled by the powerful healing of this growing community, making a way for them and their children to heal, thrive and prosper.

We are known for our Annual Single Mom’s Awards. This two-day awards show brings together the nation’s top brands and tastemakers to honor influential moms marking a difference in their home and community.

The Single Mom’s Awards is our largest fundraiser of the year.

What sets us apart is that we are the only physically engaged organization that is fully dedicated to uplifting single mothers and their children.

We do this through comprehensive programs of mentorship financial aid, family counseling and entrepreneurial training. Single Moms Planet provides support, accountability, and HOPE.

So, what’s next? Any big plans?
The future of Single Moms Planet is continuing to have our ongoing programs and mentorship.

We would like to open temporary housing for single mothers and children, helping to get on their feet. We would also like to open community centers in major metropolitan areas throughout the United States.
