Today we’d like to introduce you to Natalie Macam.
So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I have been on an odyssey to find home within myself through my travels around the globe and in my quest for deep connection, radically fun living and healing. Among my most adventurous journeys were living in Manhattan for 7 years in the garment and footwear industry, in my political science days at St. Petersberg Technical University in Russia on a National Security Education Program Scholarship through the University of Florida, and my eight years in Hong Kong and China in an Upper Level Management role for a major shoe company.
After experiencing a deep shift in my core through my initial studies of yoga, meditation and essential oils, I expanded my sense of adventure by studying meditation through the Asian Classics Institute, leading charity yoga treks in the Nepalese Himalayas, studying doTerra AromaTouch® technique and the healing properties of essential oils, receiving my 500-hr yoga teacher training with Shiva Rea, going on retreat with the Samudra School in India, discovering the connection between Sanskrit and the languages of my ancestors in the Philippines and becoming an Institute for Integrative Nutrition Health Coach.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
It hasn’t been a smooth road for me namely because I spent most of my 20’s and early 30’s completely self-involved and unaware looking for happiness in what I thought was important, career and a fear of being alone. I didn’t have a sense of purpose, nor did I realize I didn’t have one. I had no idea who I was, what I loved, and where I was going.
Yoga, Meditation, Health Coaching, and Essential Oils all gave me an anchor to find myself and also to share with others. People come to me to find sanctuary with my classes, to guide them to natural solutions through essential oils, and to feel good through focusing on their diet and learning more about their own bodies.
So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the Yoga with Natalie story. Tell us more about the business.
My classes are a full experience, a sanctuary, a movement ritual. I offer classes suited to all levels and a diverse range of styles. All my classes are marked by my harmonium, essential oils, nods to the roots of the traditions by referencing postures in Sanskrit, Savasana serenade through Classical Indian/Hindustani inspiration, and peppered with yoga philosophy. I blend the intelligent and dynamic sequencing of Shiva Rea’s Prana Flow® with heart-based reflections, breath-inspired movement, attention to alignment and an atmosphere of joy, compassion, and support.
I guide people to live in rhythm with nature, to harness the power of plants through essential oils to be healers in their own home, and to empower people to take control of their health. I provide guidance and support how to find the right diet that suits their individual body constitution and lifestyle, to feel vibrant and to radiate that energy into all the parts of themselves.
I support those who have the willingness to be open to come back home to themselves.
Has luck played a meaningful role in your life and business?
If you were to ask myself ten years, even five years ago, what I would be doing now, I would have never ever guessed.
I’m so happy that I was courageous and left an upper-level management role in a corporate environment to focus on health and wellness. Be a calculated risk taker, you’ll never regret it.
For me, it’s not about good or bad luck, it’s about doing the work.
