Meet BeNeca Griffin of Moments of Focus

Today we’d like to introduce you to BeNeca Griffin.

BeNeca, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
It’s funny when I think about the journey of my career and where I am today, I realize I’ve really been on two career tracks over the past 25 years that have now merged into one. I am a Branding Specialist, Professional Speaker, Author, Producer & CEO of a Branding Firm that works with Fortune 100/500 companies, Small Businesses, Entrepreneurs, Executives, Professionals and young adults. I am also a Writer/Producer/Executive who has spent 20+ years in television production.

On the consulting side, even before I was a teenager, I was seemingly always an “unassigned, unpaid advisor/consultant” for businesses and individuals. I could always see things that were missing and felt that if I had the opportunity to share my insight, I could make things better. Today as a Branding Specialist I have the opportunity to put my insight to work by helping others develop their visions, purpose and passion into their professional brands/businesses. Through our signature program, Discover the Brand of You™, I work with companies to help them create Professional Partnerships™ with their employees to make the most of their daily experience working together.

I help entrepreneurs & small business owners create company decks and strategies that take their business plans to another level of development and production. I help executives, professionals and young adults develop professional brands that enable them to leave legacy statements through the efforts of their work. My career in television production started as a teenager in high school. I was given an amazing opportunity to intern with HBO through an entertainment internship program called, YES to JOBS for young adults interested in working in the industry. I was assigned to a show but had no idea at the time my internship would serve as my professional training/development and lead me to become a Vice President for three TV Production companies here in Los Angeles.

Through this experience, GOD provided an opportunity for me to work with a veteran television executive & producer who took me under his direction and exposed me to every and anything I wanted to know about the industry while providing real life, hands on experiences. I went from Intern to VP and producer. As an executive, I created an internship program open to students all over the country but found that there were so many who, even from universities like USC, UCLA, Yale and so on, were not prepared to be an intern. They really needed a mentor to help them prequalify for upcoming opportunities and so I created a mentor program for those I could not hire but wanted to help. While there I wrote a book on values titled, 3rd Generation Country, a Practical Guide to Raising Children with Great Values and based on my work, was invited to and recognized by the White House as a Community Leader and nominated for an NAACP Image Award.

Recognizing what was missing on “Professional Playgrounds” I took 10 key values from that book and created a Professional Branding and Leadership Development Training Series. Our first signature program, Intern to VP ®, How to Make Your Internship Work for YOU was partnered with the University of Southern California and went on to become a high-level business training program at universities like Loyola Marymount University and Howard University. We went on to provide training services (group sessions, keynote & motivational team talks and one-on-one coaching) for executives and corporations and our brand has grown from there.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
My journey has been EXTREMELY BLESSED by GOD. As with any level of growth and training, however, it has not always been easy. Coming out of high school with a very specific non-traditional vision that most people didn’t understand came with a lot of questions and debate from many around me. Although, those experiences helped me to develop the resilience I needed to keep climbing ahead. I was a little different starting out. At 17 years old many of my friends were older and couldn’t understand how I am so sure that I wanted to be married, have children, run a business and be a producer. But I was.

Although it took a lot of Prayers, focus, sacrifice, faith, support (from family and friends), drive and determination, I now have an amazing business and my husband and I have 3 incredible daughters- Aaliyah, Alani and Tiyanane who are 19, 18 & 17 years old. One of the hard parts of building a career/business and raising a family at the same time is, you have to remember, each reflects upon and affect the other. Every step I took in business had to be good enough to be able to reflect in a positive way on my girls.

There were times of great financial need that I had to decline on certain projects because they were not aligned with my brand, values and mission. Today, however, I am grateful to be able to work on projects that solely fit my purpose.

The thing that I am most proud of about my company is that every project that we develop and produce helps people to STOP AND TAKE A MOMENT TO FOCUS. We run our business from a place of service to help others become the very best they can be.

Leadership development is not one dimensional with our company as we strive to help others multiply their gifts and create enterprises through their visions. From the keynote & motivational team talks, Professional Branding and Leadership Development Training Services, books, media and other projects, we are all about projecting great values and proper perspective while helping others give from the very best of who they are.

What is “success” or “successful” for you?
I personally believe that one is successful when they are able to:
1) Discover & develop the layers of their purpose and find a way to use it to benefit others.
2) When they are secure enough within their purpose to embark upon their journey without comparing their road to others.
