Meet Miranda Bowden-Parker of Reel Red Bones Productions in Inglewood

Today we’d like to introduce you to Miranda Bowden-Parker.

Miranda, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I hosted a writing group for six years and at one meeting a friend suggested entering a contest for ColorCreative/BET. I had never written a treatment, a pitch or anything that could remotely resemble a script but I took a chance on an idea I’ve had for years and entered. That script advanced to the second round two more times and it changed the landscape of my professional career.

I drove my husband, friends and anyone who would listen crazy as I worked tirelessly to flush out the ideas that kept me up at night. Books and short stories were always a part of my life but this was not that. It opened up a whole new world of writing for me and a fire was lit. I dove so far down the rabbit hole, I still pinch myself that this life actually became true.

Has it been a smooth road?
Nothing about the entertainment business is smooth. Succeeding requires extra effort and sometimes your only reward are the connections you make along the way. Most people believe in the overnight success stories not realizing those stories were ten years in the making. I have made mistakes. I have suffered through countless rejections. I’ve had ideas stolen or pilfered. Egos have kept me out of rooms I think I deserve to be in. In all honesty though, those things have only made me stronger and more resilient in my chase for bigger and better things. I have learned more about myself along the way, then I have in 20+ years of working in corporate America. Success is at my disposable if I DO THE WORK.

We’d love to hear more about your work and what you are currently focused on. What else should we know?
I am a writer. I am a director. I am a producer. I am known for crazy, thriller type stories and ideas but I’ve been blessed to write comedy for a year and it has definitely changed the way I look at writing. I am most proud of the continued growth of my team and I. We have dived headfirst into the world of entertainment and we have definitely been bitten by a few sharks in the process. What sets us apart is our experience, imagination and creative ideas that we fill haven’t been done before.

Is our city a good place to do what you do?
Absolutely. We are in Hollywood. The land of entertainment, fantasy, excitement and a million and one places you can guerrilla shoot your own movies. On any given day, there are thousands of people trying to make it here and most are willing to help you push your dream along if you do the work. I hope that we start to see more diversity in studio management and ownership as the landscape of television and film change, so my fingers are crossed for that.
