Meet Mike and Justin Acuna of Second Home

Today we’d like to introduce you to Mike and Justin Acuna.

Mike and Justin, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
As a family, we started Second Home because we experienced the difficulty of searching for senior housing.

It was never a topic of discussion in our family because our priority was to keep our loved one at home. As time went on, we realized that the reality of staying home was going to have to change. Unfortunately, we couldn’t keep up with the financial, emotional, and physical requirements. So, it was time to consider senior housing. What we found was that we were in the dark about senior housing regulations, costs, contracts, and services.

After a stressful and time-consuming search, we realized that families like ours would benefit from a personalized service. A service that would assist from start to finish and provide comprehensive solutions with compassion, education, and long-term solutions.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
I always say that starting a business is tough, but starting a family business is even tougher. Transitioning from brothers to partners was a huge learning curve, but we have to learned to be more respectful and honest with each other. It truly has grown our relationship.

My mother. She is a Nurse Care Manager with a local nonprofit that serves lower income seniors and helping them stay home as long as possible.

After our family went through our own senior housing search, I was able to learn so much from her and what it takes to truly help a family in need.
