Today we’d like to introduce you to Michelle Wolf.
Michelle, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
Connectivity and diversity have always been important to me given my German-Mexican heritage. Frankly, these are some of the core values that I live by every day. I have always surrounded myself with strong women who believe in supporting one another and their dreams.
Since becoming a certified coach over 13 years ago, I founded Targeted Transitions, a coaching, and personal branding agency. Shortly after, I launched my first women’s group called, EmpowHer Group- aimed at allowing women to step out of their comfort zone and into their confidence. This experience led me to know that women need a space to come together and support each other through their transitions. I acutely understand the challenges of work-life balance and what is involved with making a significant career/life transition and tap into these experiences while championing my clients.
I have worked for companies such as Mattel, Disney, Daily & Associates, Turner Broadcasting Systems, UCLA and USC’s business schools, and serving on the board for 9 years of The World is Just a Book Away as the marketing chair. I earned my Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology from the University of Southern California and a certified coach through the Coaches Training Institute. In addition, I utilize many assessment and tools with my clients, such as my certification in Myers Briggs and 360 personality profiling. I am a proud member of the International Coaching Federation and the Professional Coaches and Mentors Association.
One of the many things I’ve learned through launching EmpowHer LA is my love for collaboration and that, as women, we need to trust our inner confidence and know we are better when we champion each other!
I love living in Los Angeles, California; oozing optimism with my husband of 20 years, my three daughters, 15, 13 and 7, dog and Siamese cat.
Has it been a smooth road? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
These past few years have certainly been an adventure seeing a ten-year dream come to life. I like to look at launching a business in terms of varying opportunities instead of looking at obstacles or struggles. The path to success is never a straight line. The journey is a series of transitions and you can never imagine what obstacles/ opportunities might arise . Transitions fuel me because they offer a chance to learn on the other side. No obstacle is too large if you’re willing to grow from it. I wouldn’t say the road has been easy, but it certainly has been met without regret and fun!
EmpowHer LA – what should we know? What do you do best? What sets you apart from others?
EmpowHer LA is a California based female empowerment company that culminates a unique mix of my 25+ years of executive coaching and global marketing expertise. Founded in November of 2017, by me, Michelle Valenzuela Wolf, the wonderful product of immigrant parents from Germany and Mexico who have guided and shaped the woman I have become.
We focus on building confidence by emphasizing the discovery and alignment of core values, encouraging women to meet their goals. We offer a 360 experiential whole life approach tapping into inspiration, connectivity, fun, and business. We work within companies and communities offering one-on-one coaching, women and girls groups, experiential events, workshops, retreats, and support for female entrepreneurs.
Our goal is for women to authentically connect and provide new opportunities for them to discover their inherent strength and step into their personal power. What sets us apart from others is my keen ability to tap into others, allowing me to truly see them and what they want to create in life. I pride myself on my willingness to dig deep and my desire to see their vision as opposed to just holding it. I don’t take no for an answer- with every closed door, there is a window waiting to be opened. I am solution-oriented and believe that is the key to championing others towards their goals.
Every entrepreneur or business owner will tell you that the biggest obstacle is getting started and not letting the fear of failing stop you. I am most proud that I am modeling for other women that all things are possible if you follow your vision and passion. I never see experiences as failures, I see them as an opportunity to learn and try new things.
When I look back on my journey, I see the series of transitions I took in varying areas and the strength they afforded me in finding my vision. I also note the relationships I’ve built and sustained with colleagues and friends forming the community around the launch of EmpowHer LA.
We are fortunate that we have a large collaborative community and companies that participate in our events and workshops that are always happy to provide positive testimonials.
Where do you see your industry going over the next 5-10 years? Any big shifts, changes, trends, etc?
The personal development industry is mirroring that of other educational institutions in that we are finding more and more information is available through online courses, Youtube or Ted Talks. The larger question is, making sure that you have a key point of differentiation in your business and understanding how to set yourself apart.
At EmpowHer LA, we incorporate experiential interactive workshops into our curriculum to continue to be relevant as the industry shifts. We believe these workshops ground individuals learning and are more beneficial as they allow them to put the information to practice as opposed to just hearing. The old saying goes, practice makes perfect- I don’t buy into perfection but I do think practice leads to a clearer understanding.
