Meet Michelle Rivera and Lara Scott

Today we’d like to introduce you to Michelle Rivera and Lara Scott.

Lara Scott is a Radio Host at K-Earth 101 in Los Angeles and Michelle Rivera is an Emmy Award-winning TV. Host who created the Lifestyle Blog Michelle Rivera Lifestyle.

Lara and Michelle met at a Moms In Media event in 2018 and became instant friends and kept in touch via Social Media.

In the Spring of 2019, Lara had Michelle call in to report on a local event and realized they had great on-air chemistry. Soon after the idea for the podcast ‘Searching SoCal,’ was born.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Being two busy working moms, scheduling has been our biggest challenge. It took us four months to properly prepare for the show, and we wanted to make sure we had enough time to record, edit, and post the show every week. Our other challenge was that being a new show without a track record, we had difficulty booking guests, about 50% of the first batch of people we reached out to, we never even heard back from.

However, we realized that people get inundated with requests and so we didn’t take any of it personally. Instead, we kept going and decided to focus on the people who were interested in coming onto the show. With both of us working in media, we are very aware that rejection is part of the game, so we continue to show up, work hard, and be consistent because it’s been our experience that if you do this then doors do eventually open.

We’d love to hear more about your work.
Lara and Michelle both work in Media. Lara is an On-Air Radio Host for K-Earth 101 in Los Angeles and Michelle is a T.V. Host who runs a Lifestyle Blog called, ‘Michelle Rivera Lifestyle.’ Together, they created and co-host the podcast, ‘Searching SoCal,’ bringing their audience the hidden gems, local trends, and favorite places to go here in Southern California.

Lara and Michelle are most proud of the fact that they have provided a space for smaller venues and businesses to share the wonderful services that they have to provide but otherwise may not have had the opportunity to share due to lack of big budgets to advertise.

Lara and Michelle understand that there are websites and blogs out there that share similar information as they do about fun places to go here in Southern California, however, what they believe sets ‘Searching SoCal,’ apart is that it’s a podcast, and so it’s easier for people to just listen in while they drive in their cars, or are out running their errands, working, or at the gym. They don’t need to stop and read anything, but Instead, just listen in to get easily digestible, quick information on events and places to go, and get that information directly from the people who are running those events and places.

What were you like growing up?
Lara was an introvert who as a child used to pretend to be a D.J. and do D.J. takes for her mom. She never dreamed that she would actually do that for work one day. While Michelle was the opposite, a complete Extrovert, who loved to sing, dance, and perform in her school chorus and musicals. She always loved the entertainment world.
