Today we’d like to introduce you to Michael Raanan, MBA, EA.
So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
While an IRS Revenue Officer for about 8 years, I worked directly with taxpayers and their representatives to resolve their tax delinquency and bring them back into federal tax compliance. I managed an inventory of cases involving business and individual taxpayers throughout the United States and elsewhere, including Canada and Luxembourg.
Realizing the need for competent tax representation, coupled with the personal satisfaction I gained by working with taxpayers to resolve their tax matters, led me to leave the government in 2012 and start my own professional tax relief firm where I’ve been helping taxpayers ever since.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
While at the IRS, I’d had the fortunate (and unique) experience of working directly with hundreds of business taxpayers. Through my interactions with those business owners, I had learned a lot about the do’s and don’ts of business and incorporated many of those lessons into Landmark Tax Group’s initial business plan. And the education and knowledge I gained while earning my MBA during the last couple of years of my IRS tenure combined with the lessons learned from my casework at the time helped mitigate some of the more preventable struggles early on.
However, as with all new businesses, Landmark Tax Group was faced with the challenge of finding new clients, telling the world that we exist, and effectively and consistently serving taxpayers with the highest quality of IRS tax resolution possible. Although we’ve been at it for over five years now and have been fortunate to see a certain level of success, we are still faced with regular challenges that keep us on our toes. What keeps us motivated, however, is the positive feedback from taxpayers and knowing that we’re making a positive difference in people’s lives. That alone reinforces the fact that as the Captain of the ship I’m on the right track and inspires me to continue moving in the right direction.
