Meet Melissa Cherniss of The Lace Appeal

Today we’d like to introduce you to Melissa Cherniss.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Melissa. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
It all began roughly ten years ago (ugh, I can’t believe I am old enough to use this phrase right now) as I watched the Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show for the very first time. It was fabulous. Like every other girl watching the show, I instantly became obsessed with the Angels. Specifically, their confidence as they strutted on down the runway wearing only a bra and panty.

At that moment, I knew every girl deserved to feel that way when they wear lingerie. I figured I’d stalk out the nearest store to find something that made me feel my absolute best. Well, my dreams came to a halt at the end of the show when VS aired their latest commercial. Totally geared towards men, and what they should buy their lady this holiday season. Talk about buzz kill. How about let us decide what we want on our bodies? Needless to say, I didn’t go shopping the next day.

Through all of these years, I never let go of the idea that all women should feel confident wearing lingerie. Especially given the statistic that about 80% of women wear the incorrect bra size. So, last year I decided to do the batshit thing by quitting my job to pursue a brand new blog full time. I’ve made it my mission to help women discover different designers, but more importantly, where they can buy these pieces. I spend a lot of time, driving around the United States reviewing different lingerie boutiques and featuring them on The Lace Appeal.

Has it been a smooth road?
Can I curse? FUCK NO. I mean, I did quit my job to pursue just an idea The Lace Appeal.

At the time there were maybe six posts published? The beginning was smooth sailing, actually. After quitting my job, I decided to take summer courses at UAL: London College of Fashion concentrating on lingerie design and construction. But I learned, the whole process isn’t exactly a walk in the park and applied for the full-time program. I start this Septemeber.

After last summer, things got serious. I had to sit down and make a plan to make things work. Basically, sink or swim. But I’m a believer that if you want something bad enough you’ll do whatever it takes to make it happen.

So let’s switch gears a bit and go into The Lace Appeal story. Tell us more about the business.
The Lace Appeal is a blog dedicated to helping women find the perfect piece of lingerie. We believe all women should have the freedom to explore their bodies and decide what works best for them. The reality is, women come in different shapes and sizes. A style that works for your BFF might not work for you, and THAT IS OKAY.

Where do you see your industry going over the next 5-10 years?  Any big shifts, changes, trends, etc?
Hopefully, within the next 5-10 years, lingerie will no longer be considered as taboo. Most likely we will see a massive shift in brands becoming more sustainable.
