Meet Meghan Frisch

Today we’d like to introduce you to Meghan Frisch.

Hi Meghan, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
With the pandemic, I had a lot of free time to spend alone, so I decided to learn something new! I took an online silversmithing course on how to make a simple sterling silver and stone ring & set up my at-home studio. Silversmithing quickly became a passion, turning into a side hustle by the end of 2020. A year after learning how to silversmith, I quit my 9-5 and began building Meghan Elisabeth Art (MEA) full-time!

I make minimalist and artisanal sterling silver & turquoise jewelry. Each piece is entirely handmade & one-of-a-kind, showcasing the natural beauty of each stone through unique combinations & delicate sterling silver designs. Slow-made with quality materials, MEA jewelry is crafted to be worn with pride and adored for years to come.

In January of 2023, I moved into a truck camper with my partner & two dogs to travel the United States full-time. With this life transition, I also transitioned my business to be run on the road! My partner and I missed traveling with Covid and wanted to prioritize our love for the outdoors more consistently in our daily lives. We’ll be traveling to see the natural sites of the United States over the next two years and my studio will be set up at whatever campground we happen to be at!

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
It has not been a smooth road, but I think that is the case for most small businesses. The biggest struggle throughout my two years in business has been the imposter syndrome — I am not professionally trained in my craft, and I didn’t go to business school, so my anxiety can get the best of me sometimes! When you know your work is quality and worthy of being seen, it is hard to have such thoughts bring you down.

I am also going through large pivot in my business that has removed a good portion of my income. Prior to this year, I was attending a large number of in-person markets and events. With moving my business on the road, I no longer have this income stream! I’m in the process of diversifying my income and building up my online audience, but this transition period has been a financial challenge.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I make minimalist sterling silver and turquoise jewelry where every piece is entirely handmade & one-of-a-kind. I am most known for the delicate style of my work — it is uncommon to come across delicate turquoise jewelry and minimalist asymmetrical statement pieces!

I am most proud of my statement earrings. My statement earring designs are asymmetrical combinations of silver and stones, utilizing color and shape to create a balanced and organic design. My most well-known statement earrings (and what I call my highest work) are the Sculpture Earring designs, which are unique combinations of 4-5 stones!

I have not seen the minimalist & delicate design style consistent throughout my work reflected by other artists. I draw inspiration directly from the stones to create the unique stone & shape combinations in my designs, and the stones themselves are one-of-a-kind. My highest work would be near impossible to re-create!

What’s next?
As I’ve mentioned above, I recently moved my business on the road full-time! My plans for the future are still resting on this transition, with this recent pivot still taking a large portion of my bandwidth, but once this transition has fully settled, I would love to expand my consignment and wholesale accounts. I’d love to have Meghan Elisabeth Art jewelry in artist-curated brick-and-mortar stores throughout the United States!
