Today we’d like to introduce you to Maureen Tepedino.
Hi Maureen, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Growing up in the Caribbean, I began expressing my innate artistic ability by drawing sketches of Jamaican sceneries and still life. As a child, my creativity was encouraged by my parents, who recognized my talents from a very young age. I later studied Interior Design and Art at Santa Monica City College and now work as an Interior Designer, Abstract Artist and a Color Specialist to Walls. I was exposed to and inspired by Jackson Pollock’s paintings whose work I truly identify with while working and representing IBM Canada at a Marketing Convention in Banff Springs.
As a former musician, my artwork is also inspired by contemporary jazz, reggae, classical music and the blues. I currently invest my efforts in creating unusual abstract designs using acrylic on canvas and mixed media, which reflect the colors of the Caribbean’s subtle hues contrasted with blazing colors. My work brings a new flavor and accent that transforms and is described as eclectic and transcultural. My paintings are sold nationally by Interior Designers, Art Consultants, Architects and Contractors for high-end residential and corporate projects. I also specialize in corporate art by creating original pieces designed for Commercial Spaces.
My biggest joy comes from the satisfaction of my clients. One in particular said, ‘Maureen how did you know exactly what was needed to capture my essence’? Another really touched me when she said she selected ‘Crashing Ocean Waves’ because she wanted to have a piece of me in her home’! That really reinforced my gratitude to know that my paintings brought such joy and happiness to my clients. I am forever grateful to be doing what I love and to be appreciated!
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Again, I wouldn’t say it was a ‘smooth road’! Nothing is 😉 I’d say there were small challenges at times…particularly when I didn’t have the proper team to execute greatness. Once I overcame the learning curve, everything fell into place. I’m forever grateful to meet wonderful clients who appreciate my dedication and commitment to my work and refer me to their family, friends and associates.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I’m an abstract, figurative artist and enjoy creating unique images using acrylic paints and mixed media.
As an Interior Designer, I work mostly with residential designs and enjoy creating beautiful, functional spaces through color, design, flooring, window treatments and decor items for my clients to enjoy.
We’re always looking for the lessons that can be learned in any situation, including tragic ones like the Covid-19 crisis. Are there any lessons you’ve learned that you can share?
The Covid-19 crisis certainly forced me to be more Creative, Patient and to Think Outside Of The Box!
