Meet Matt Komo

Today we’d like to introduce you to Matt Komo.

Matt, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
Started filmmaking around the age of 14 years old after a track and field injury forced me to be on the sidelines for the year. Wanting to be involved with the team still, I would film practices and put together the footage for review. Instantly becoming obsessed with photo/video l pursued it past high school. Went to college at Chapman University studying Film Production with an emphasis in cinematography and a minor in advertising. A week after graduating I moved to San Francisco to work for GoPro where I spent the next 2.5 years working. I traveled all over the world with GoPro and documented my adventures along the way.

Has it been a smooth road?
The road has been far from smooth. With anyone following their dream it comes with a ton of sacrifice, hard work, heartbreak, and self-doubt. However, the only thing you can do is be your best self-day in and day out. Have small marginal improvement and let that compound over time. Eventually you’ll be where you want to be.

So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the Matt Komo story. Tell us more about the business.
I’m a filmmaker and photographer that makes branded content all over the world for varying companies. I’m known for my cinematic flare that’s coupled with a very precise editing style. The energy you feel after you watch one of my videos is what I would like to think sets me apart from everyone else.

Let’s touch on your thoughts about our city – what do you like the most and least?
I love LA because it is the center of the entertainment industry. It’s also only an hour drive from my hometown of Orange County so in a way it still sort of feels like home. Definitely don’t like the traffic of LA, but it is what it is.
