Meet Marcel Cocit of Married to Food Catering in Marina Del Rey

Today we’d like to introduce you to Marcel Cocit.

So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I grew up watching my father cook and I always had an appreciation for food. I went to culinary school in New York which is where I’m originally from at 20 years old. From there, I worked for many high profile families as a personal chef. I then moved to Los Angeles, CA in 2000 and then I worked for many A List celebrities such as Brad Pitt and Ryan Seacrest. I then started my catering business on the side and then it grew so quickly, it became my full-time job. I met my wife ten years ago and she worked in the restaurant business for over 15 years and she helped me grow our company to a very successful catering company. We now work together to make culinary masterpieces for the biggest names in Hollywood. Marcel and Jeannie reside in Los Angeles and have a daughter, Sofia.

Has it been a smooth road?
In any business, there are ups and downs for sure. It took a lot of hard work to build the client base we have today. Living in Los Angeles, being a personal chef and caterer is very competitive. There were some months when we were building the business, it was very slow with only 1 or 2 jobs, which was very challenging at times. I kept grinding and staying in faith and that is what got us through.

So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the Married to Food Catering story. Tell us more about the business.
We are a husband and wife team first. We own a full-service catering business. What sets us apart is that we are a full-service catering company that provides rentals, bar service..etc..We are basically a one-stop shop which clients love, instead of clients having to deal with a bunch of vendors. We do it all. I am most proud of the way my wife and I run the business together. We take pride in how we deal with clients to our staff and of course, in the food. We put so much love into every aspect of our business that clients and employees can see it and feel it. We believe service is just as important as the food. I believe what sets us apart is that we treat everyone with kindness, whether its a big job or small dinner party.  I am the type of person who is always loving towards everyone and I always bring my funny sense of humor to every event. I bring fun to every job I have. If you can’t have fun in the kitchen, then you shouldn’t be in the kitchen.

How do you think the industry will change over the next decade?
I believe in the catering business, it’s always about the quality of food and service. If you got that right, then you will always succeed in this business.
