Today we’d like to introduce you to Malik Bazille.
Malik, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I started comedy a little over a year in a half ago. The reason why I started comedy is b/c my agent and my father suggested it for me since I wasn’t getting any work in Hollywood. This was around the time my Netflix original film “burning sands” dropped. I never really had a dream of doing stand up comedy but I always watched it if it comes on tv. My dream was to be a professional boxer and I was on my way to pursue that until a career-ending injury happened in 2015. I hit five open mics for one year straight until it was Jeff Garlin who seen me outside of the Hollywood improv and asked if I can open up his show at the Hollywood improv and I did that, he took a liking towards me and now I open up for him all the time.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
There will always be difficulty along the way if you’re trying to reach a certain goal or desire to fulfill your dreams but this journey was quite less difficult compared to my boxing journey… I took the same approach I had in boxing with the hardwork and dedication and implemented that into my comedy grind and I’m already seeing the benefits from it.
We’d love to hear more about your work and what you are currently focused on. What else should we know?
I’m a stand-up comedian and I’m most proud of myself for tackling this hard job as an entertainer because it’s not an easy job but I embrace everyday.
Has luck played a meaningful role in your life and business?
I don’t believe in luck… I just believe in a hard work ethic and faith and belief.
