Meet Maggie Gierard of Lady Crush Crew

Today we’d like to introduce you to Maggie Gierard.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Maggie. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I started climbing a little over three years ago with my husband. We were looking for a fun activity to do together and decided to check out the climbing gym – we were hooked immediately! I loved the sense of physical and mental accomplishment when I got to the top of a problem. I pretty quickly discovered that the climbing scene had a really strong community around it, and it was so fun to meet other women who were passionate about climbing. I got to know that ladies of Lady Crush Crew through gym meetups and their Instagram presence, and I always loved what they were doing to empower women through climbing. About a year ago, they asked me to join as a leader, and it has been an amazing year! We have grown tremendously, brought on ambassadors, started meetups at new gyms and in new regions, and met so many incredible people!

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
This past few months has been a huge learning curve in terms of expansion. We found ourselves with more and more people coming to our meetups, wanting to expand into new areas, wanting to build up a website and sell merch, but a team of three people can only do so much! So we decided to bring on ambassadors to help with a lot of the logistics of running meetups and having a presence in different communities. When we opened up the ambassador applications we figured we’d get a few, figure things out slowly, etc. But we had so many more applicants than we expected! Which is a great problem, but it meant that we really found ourselves figuring out how to run an ambassador program completely on the fly. So far it has gone well, but it’s been a crazy past few months.

Please tell us about Lady Crush Crew.
“Our mission is to become involved in the climbing community by hosting monthly meetups for womxn and friends, stewardship through crag clean ups, highlighting iconic climbers on our social media platforms, and partnering with climbing organizations and brands for events, raffles, and giveaways.”

“With different body types, skill levels, strengths, weaknesses, and preferences, a group of friends formed LADY CRVSH CREW to help empower womxn to break through tough betas. Come join us on our journey in projecting, failing, sending, flashing, celebrating victories, and learning from setbacks – on and off the wall.”

Do you look back particularly fondly on any memories from childhood?
Exploring the woods behind our house in Montana. We lived in a rural area, and the rule was that as long as I could still see our house through the trees, I could go wherever I wanted. (I admittedly broke this rule many times, but never got lost.) Considering that I was only about five years old, it was a lot of freedom to have!
