Meet Jessica Frank and Haylie Duff of Little Moon Society in Studio City

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jessica Frank and Haylie Duff.

Jessica and Haylie, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
Haylie and I met twenty years ago at reckless driving school. Haylie continued to build a career as an actress, and I built one in fashion and clothing design. I had a clothing line based in Vancouver, and when I moved back, Haylie loved the clothing so much that she suggested we create a line together. It started just as a side project, but it was so beautifully received that we decided to go full force with our passion project. We began selling our children’s clothing pieces in stores and showrooms all around the world, and from there it was the natural progression to open our very own flagship store in Studio City. We are rooted in eco-friendly practices, and that has always been a driving force in our brand and business. We also carry handmade and specialized curated pieces in our store created by amazing artists and companies, which helps to create that authentic feel that we are so passionate about.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
With any business, there is always a learning curve involved, and we learned a lot in a very short period of time. What’s great is that we partnered with some amazing companies who have made this journey a much smoother one. We have a wonderful family-owned manufacturer who really cares about quality and eco-friendly practices, and the same goes for our dye house and fabric knitter. We have learned that when everyone is on the same page in terms of work ethic, passion, vision, etc., even though issues will inevitably arise, we always have a strong team to figure it out. We are lucky to not feel alone during this process.

Please tell us about your business.
We create really comfortable, unique clothing for children and adults. We specialize in producing quality fabrics which we knit here in Los Angeles. We have become somewhat known for our soft and luxurious fabrics! We manufacture our clothing from start to finish in Hollywood, and then our dye team located here in LA dyes each piece one at a time by hand. The process is lengthy and strenuous, but worth every minute of hard work because the result is beautifully made clothing that stands the test of time.

We have spent countless hours discovering small, independently owned brands from all over the country. We are obsessed finding really unique items we’ve never seen before and bringing them into the shop for our customers to fall in love with as well. Stunning ceramics and home goods really catch our eye. We offer an array of all natural and organic beauty brands, simple and classic jewelry, wooden toys for kids, a rad selection of books, beautiful woven baskets – basically anything that evokes inspiration and beauty for the home and personal lifestyle. We also have a kick ass vintage section that we curate ourselves. We truly have something for everyone.

What moment in your career do you look back most fondly on?
I know this might sound cheesy, but every time we see someone wearing our brand on the street, at a park, at a market, wherever – we get so excited and feel so honored that someone has chosen our brand to wear. It’s the best feeling!
