Today we’d like to introduce you to Lindsey Wilson.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Lindsey. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I started making my own bone broth when I couldn’t find any on the market that did not have garlic and onions as the base. I was on a gut healing protocol and was avoiding any common allergens or possible gut irritants. I didn’t love the taste of bone broth, so I started adding herbs, roots like ginger and turmeric, and seasonal vegetables to mask the taste. I was so inspired working with these healing herbs, and eventually landed on what is now OWL’s signature recipe, which is a light broth that tastes more like a tea. Perfect for sipping and adding into your daily routine, and especially good for anyone working on healing the gut.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Good lord, NO! It is true that the food industry is tough, and I’ve learned so much! We were blessed with good problems from the beginning and always struggled to keep up with demand, so we outgrew our home operation very quickly. With the long cook time and no startup capital, we had a really hard time finding an affordable kitchen that was certified for wholesale. It took us two years, in and out of four different kitchens, until we found a home at LA Prep.
For OWL, it’s always been a matter of how do we scale in a sustainable way, without compromising on quality organic ingredients. We’ve made a very conscious choice to grow locally in and around LA, rather than scale into national distribution and compromise on our mission to use only organic and sustainable ingredients to produce and package our products.
OWL VENICE – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
OWL stands for One Whole Life. Our mission is to inspire people to live their best lives because we only get one! Our products are all designed to make you feel better from the inside out.
We are best known for our broth elixirs, which are packed with herbs, roots and veggies, and taste more like a tea than a traditional stock. Our products are inspired by Ayurveda and Chinese medicine and are functional in nature. We use all organic and locally sourced ingredients and are void of common allergens, so everyone can enjoy!
We are committed to sustainability and will never package in plastic, even if that means keeping our business local. We are opening a space on Abbot Kinney and cannot wait to connect with the community and expand the brand into more lifestyle and wellness products!
What moment in your career do you look back most fondly on?
My proudest moments are when I receive positive customer feedback in my inbox. When I hear how OWL products have made someone feel better, I feel so connected to my purpose! I created all of the products to heal myself, and sharing that with others is the greatest gift.
I also glow with pride, and mostly gratitude, every time we wrap a shoot. Seeing our team come together to make magic, all while having an amazing time- it’s the best feeling.
Lately, there’s so much happening, I’m in awe, and feel more like I’m witnessing and holding space, rather than dictating the pace.
