Meet Lindsey Davidson of LENNY in West LA

Today we’d like to introduce you to Lindsey Davidson.

So, before we jump into specific questions, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
Well! At the very beginning of COVID, early March – I was laid off from my job in Fashion. I was running the wholesale sales for the WC. At first, I was panicking – no job (which was the first time in my life for me to not be earning money), the world was shutting down and I had just tested positive for corona. Scary times, but I quickly saw that it was the biggest blessing that could have EVER happened to me. I was very much ready for the next chapter in my career and knew that this was the time to figure it out, whether I wanted to or not.

One thing you’ll quickly learn about me is that I have the hardest time sitting still. So cooped up in my house with then boyfriend (now fiance) and two dogs, I had to figure out something to pass the time. I was knitting/crocheting and then started tie-dying. Another thing — I don’t love sweats, so I was figuring out a way to make cool clothes with dye.

I had a vision of this Chore jacket in my head and went for it, posted it on my Instagram story and gained more traction than I thought. One thing led to another and decided I was really going to give my craft a go. I’ve put out three capsules and am figuring it out as I go!

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I don’t have anything to compare it to, but is has been really great! The biggest struggle for me personally is keeping everything financially on track. I’m a start-up as it gets. I hand-dye, stitch, and embroider all of the garments – run the social media, edit all the photos. I finally got smart and hired the BEST photographer in the world to shoot my capsule collections, which has been the biggest game-changer.

Her name is Lauren Moghavem — insta is @openforedit — check her out!! I think figuring out how to navigate life after working in a corporate structure where your job was clearly outlined, to running your own company is a huge shift, but TOTALLY WORTH IT!

Please tell us about LENNY.
LENNY — is a RTW (ready to wear) clothing line. Each LENNY capsule is a work of art and labor of love. We begin with artisanal craftsmanship: we hand dye, hand wash, hand stitch and embroider each item of clothing so that it’s one of one. Our dyes, detergents, and bleaches are all environmentally friendly and only used on repurposed clothing – because wearing LENNY isn’t just about looking good – it’s doing good.

LENNY was created as a tool for everyone to harness their confidence in self-expression. There is no “perfect outfit” or one size fits all approach to fashion and style. Everyone is their own model and muse and should wear what excites them.

We believe in designs that help our customers experiment and expand their comfort zones; making them feel more comfortable in their own skin – not just in our clothes. That means daring color combinations, hand-dyed patterns, and high contrast stitching that make them stand out from the crowd.

Most importantly, each capsule released has an impact beyond our bottom line: a portion of your purchase is donated to a different cause each month. It’s important for our consumers to know that they are not just making the world a more fashionable place in our clothes, but a better one as well.

Do you look back particularly fondly on any memories from childhood?
That is so hard, but definitely summer nights riding bikes when it was still light late outside (knowing we didn’t have school in the morning/homework to do) and then watching one of the ABC family shows that I would definitely still watch today.

Such simpler times…I can’t even imagine what my grandparents would say to that!
