Meet Lindsay Ravage and Kristin Engle of Tiny Spotlight

Today we’d like to introduce you to Lindsay Ravage and Kristin Engle.

Tiny Spotlight is co-owned by mom friends and theatre enthusiasts, Lindsay Ravage and Kristin Engle. Lindsay earned her BA in theatre from USC and Kristin earned her BA in Theatre and Dance from the University of Texas Austin. We started Tiny Spotlight after feeling there was a lack of interesting and fun theatre classes in the Valley for our own kids.

Has it been a smooth road?
The nice part is that we are moms in the valley and have an amazing network of families through raising our kids here, so filling our classes has not been as challenging as if we didn’t have that. Not to say that it has always been easy. We have definitely had some growing pains, but we’ve been quite fortunate to have such an amazing community supporting us.

The hardest part for us has been reaching families we don’t know yet and who don’t know us. We have partnered with several businesses to do cross promotion and have been going to a local children’s theatre, Storybook Theatre, every Saturday to talk about our classes and hand out flyers, as well as setting up a table in front of Two Roads Theatre, the theatre where we hold our classes, handing out free cookies and flyers. This part has been really fun!

We’d love to hear more about your business.
As you may or may not know, there are plenty of acting/theatre schools for kids all across Los Angeles, including the Valley. But many are for kids who are already interested in theatre or who even may already be working in the entertainment business.

We work on the fundamentals of theatre, acting and vocal technique while also teaching social skills, collaboration, and creativity through fun-filled classes in a REAL THEATRE setting. But unlike many other acting schools in LA, our focus is NOT necessarily to create the next famous actor.

After all, most parents sign their kids up for youth sports to teach them teamwork and sportsmanship, NOT to develop the next baseball or soccer star. The lessons we teach go beyond the theatre and will have a positive impact on whatever our students choose to do in their lives.

Is our city a good place to do what you do?
Los Angeles is the perfect city for a school like ours because many of the people in our city work in the creative arts and know how important it is for children to be exposed to the arts. Although, it is also very saturated with programs and if you are starting a theatre school, you really need to find something that sets you apart from all the rest.
