Today we’d like to introduce you to Lauren Smith.
Lauren Smith is a fellow sorority sister, Registered Dietitian and founder of The Sorority Nutritionist. After gaining nearly 20 pounds her freshman year of college and feeling so lost when it came to nutrition, Lauren was left feeling insecure in her body and lacked confidence in herself. Determined to lose the weight, Lauren did what any sorority sister would do: turn to celebrities, social media and what her friends were doing to lose weight. Unfortunately, this led her down a path of restrictive eating, stress and anxiety when it came to fueling her body!
Like many of her sorority sisters, Lauren constantly felt he urge to exercise and cut out entire food groups like carbs and dairy. Despite losing weight with these new changes, Lauren felt so restricted and hated her body more and more… and soon realized her sorority sisters felt the same way, too! It wasn’t until her senior year of college she realized her eating behaviors were affecting her happiness and social life. She realized this wasn’t normal, and was tired of obsessing over workouts and her food choices. She wanted to love the way she looked and love her diet!
After navigating her own weight loss journey, Lauren turned her biggest insecurity into her passion and full-time business. She turned her obsession with clean eating into developing a balanced, healthy weight loss program that doesn’t include restriction. Seven years later, she owns a successful online private practice and has helped hundreds of women lose weight and gain confidence with her balanced and FUN weight loss method! With over 16,000 “fit babe” followers on Instagram that is constantly growing each day, Lauren inspires sorority sisters and women all over the world to love their bodies and love food! Her coaching programs show women how to lose weight, feel confident and create sustainable eating habits so they can be the best version of themselves.
Lauren holds a Bachelor’s degree in Dietetics from Florida State University and a Master’s degree in Clinical Nutrition from Boston University. She completed her dietetic internship at the University of Massachusetts Medical Center.
Has it been a smooth road?
Over the course of the past nine months of my entrepreneurial journey as a registered dietitian, it has been a crazy to say the least. I started by business back in April of 2019, and as of today I’m full-freaking-time which is NUTS! I feel so blessed.
I think the hardest part about putting yourself on social media and running my entire business through Instagram is the comparison game, imposter syndrome and haters. I’ve learned that it is so important to stay true to your mission, your story and who you authentically are because it will always shine through and YOU WILL SUCCEED! In addition, there are always going to be people who disagree with you and don’t want you to succeed for their own insecure reasons, so you have to get good at blocking those negative messages out of your head. It can be toxic.
I’ve built my entire business off of sharing my dark past and personal struggles with eating, so when I began to gain traction online and grow my following I took it very personally when others would attack what I do or disagree with my message. At the end of the day, having a strong community of women who love my message and see success following the method I’ve developed as a dietitian along with the support from my fiance, business coach and friends/family have continued to inspire me to wake up and live my dream so I’m able to serve my clients and audience in the best way possible.
Alright – so let’s talk business. What else should we know about you and your career so far?
The Sorority Nutritionist is an online private practice that inspires sorority sisters to lose weight while having FUN. I provide luxury nutrition coaching to women all over the world.
Compared to other nutrition brands and programs, my weight loss method is all about having FUN and actually seeing results. Working with so many women as a registered dietitian who wanted to lose weight and were epically failing at following commercial diet programs, I began to realize there had to be a better way to approach weight loss that didn’t’ have to feel quite as restrictive and boring.
As I counseled more and more women as a registered dietitian, I realized there were a few things I kept repeating to my clients over and over again which made them see results without feeling so restricted! In addition, I realized my clients were focusing on all the wrong things: they would cut out entire food groups but fail to understand the amount of calories you eat daily is the most important aspect for weight loss! Eating organic is great, but that doesn’t mean you’re going to lose weight sister!
After this realization, I knew I had to get this message out to the world and decided to start The Sorority Nutritionist. As I got to know my followers better and continued working with clients privately, I ended up developing a proven 3 step weight loss method that I now teach women on social media and privately to my coaching clients in my small group and private 1:1 coaching program.
The Sorority Nutritionist is most known for FUN weight loss tips and myth busting. Most notably, my low calorie “Starbucks Swaps” recipes are extremely popular online (https://www.thesororitynutritionist.com/swaps) including posts like this one! https://www.instagram.com/p/B6dkFRmp7Qk/.
