Today we’d like to introduce you to LaTalya Gaffney.
LaTalya, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
My stage name Crafty G. I started PipeDreams Apparel in 2017 when I was called to open up for Bay Area legend Keak Da Sneak. I wanted to stand out and have all my fans and supporters wearing my logo and I was also allowed to set up a booth at the show. So I got about 50 shirts made and sold out of all of them and decided I could make some money and own my own company. I came up with the “PipeDreams’ idea back in 2012 an I have been harboring on the release at its perfect timing. I have managed to cut the middle man out and taught myself how to cut vinyl and heat press on various clothing items and I have expanded to customizing clothing for others. I’ve went from selling at my shows to selling at events twice a month. I am currently building my website and planning to open up my t-shirt shop by the beginning of 2020.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
NO! The road has been one of the roughest I have ever encountered in my adult life. When you decide to step out on your own and blaze your own path, there are multiple obstacles that occur. One has said the nothing great comes easy and I am a true believer of that theory. When I first started teaching myself to use my vinyl cutting machine and heat press I was on youtube everyday it seemed easy watching the video but when it came down to actually doing it myself, I messed up so many t-shirts and sweats it was throughly frustrating. I have learned the true meaning of blood, sweat, and TEARS. What used to take me an hour to do now takes me 30 mins! I almost gave up so many times but I have had suck it up and realize that this is what I was put on this earth to do. I would have never thought that I would have a clothing line that is opening up so many doors for me.
PipeDreams Apparel – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
PipeDreams is a clothing brand that specializes in urban apparel for men, women, and children. We also customize clothing for the public (basketball teams and other clothing brands) using the Heat Transfer Vinyl technique. We pride ourselves on INSPIRATION to not only children but the broken man or women in our society. PipeDreams meaning is a dream that others look at as far fetched or unattainable but with faith, tenacity, strong mind, and last but not least HUSTLE AND HARD WORK WE WILL MAKE THESE DREAMS COME TRUE!
What is “success” or “successful” for you?
I believe that if you set your goals, write them down and do the footwork, you’ll see your dreams come true. Success to me is when you accomplish the goals you’ve set for yourself. There are no limits to success, no one can tell me how much or how little needs to be done to obtain success.
