LaJuannah, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
While working as a Child Protective Services Social Worker, I tailored my passion for helping others and expanded those passions when I was forced to embrace the impact of how Prostate Cancer effected my Father’s family, Him being one of nine male children diagnosed the disease, I became heavily involved with coordinating fundraisers to help Prostate Cancer patients pay for treatment that was not covered through their insurance. Events and Fundraisers I coordinated became popular in the Bay Area and before you knew it LaLa’s Jazzy Productions was born with a strong following.
Participating in formal trainings and conferences that allowed me to design and develop a business that would produce a classy, intimate and upscale event has been a highlight in my business development. I met my wonderful husband and we began our journey to Southern California where it has allowed me to grow professionally and creatively. I have had the blessed opportunity to gain knowledge from the best in the industry. Being influenced by my mother’s decorative flare and my drive to succeed for my own children’s benefit, has manifested into a LOVE for what I do. Knowing that the outcome of the majority of events I produce will help others in the end is an added bonus. I look forward to the opportunity to mentor other entrepreneurs and inspire them to take a “risk” on themselves.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
A few obstacles have been the transition from Northern California to Southern California. I had to re-create my “specialty” in the southern California…the land of “Glitz and Glam” That is when small intimate weddings and executive dinners became an option on my services menu. Other obstacles involve obtaining small business funding to take the company to a competitive level in a metropolitan area where there are a variety of options for consumers.
