Meet La Crescenta Fitness Trainer: Ankeen Tashdjian

Today we’d like to introduce you to Ankeen Tashdjian.  Below you’ll find edited excerpts of our interview with Ankeen.

Can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.

Growing up, I was very involved in sports and loved to be active. TV was never for me. I was a waitress at Hot Wings cafe for many years and throughout the years customers would ask me for advice on health, what to eat and how to exercise. It came to a point where they were literally asking me to start a fitness camp, so I did just that. I left my comfort zone and rented out some space at a kickboxing gym that I attended. I started off with a group of 10 women 3 days a week for a few hours. A year later and over a 100 women later I had no choice but to expand. This is how Keenfitness came about. Truly a blessing! We just celebrated our 3 year Anniversary and looking forward to celebrating many more! Keenfitness is an all women’s gym located in Montrose, CA. Our classes are one of a kind, just come see for yourself.

Has it been a smooth road?

Absolutely NOT! There have been countless battles and struggles along the road. You know the old saying, “Nothing worth having comes easy.” Anything worth having takes effort. I would say one the biggest struggles in the beginning was thinking that I can handle everything myself. I worked day and night, barely slept, paying rent and the fact that I could never seem to relax. Luckily, I had a strong personality going into this field because let me tell you dealing with over 100 different personalities and opinions is no easy task. I am sure you have heard this one before as well, “Do what you LOVE and you’ll never work a day in your LIFE.”

What are your plans for the future?

As far as future plans goes, I would love to expand and help more woman feel good about themselves and confident about all they are REALLY capable. I would love to continue being involved with the community and hosting fundraisers and bring awareness to real life issues. I’m ready to spread my wings and explore new ideas, and who knows where KEEN can end up!

Let’s dig a little deeper into your story.  What was the hardest time you’ve had?

One of the toughest times of my life was the last few years of my job as a waitress.  I knew I had a passion about fitness and health BUT I was stuck and sacred to leave my comfort zone. I didn’t trust myself enough to get up and leave my job in order to follow my dreams. The day I did was the BEST day of my entire life. I definitely struggled the first 2 years. Now that I look back, it’s a dream come true.  I am my own boss, doing what I love and best of all helping woman get fit, feel sexy, love life and the best that they can be!
