Meet Kyle Doohan of Studio Arcady in Downtown Los Angeles

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kyle Doohan.

Kyle, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I have been passionate about movies and filmmaking for a long time. I like watching classic films in high school and knew that I wanted to become a filmmaker. In college, I studied English because I wanted to become a better writer and critical thinker. I ended up taking an awesome student-taught class at UC Berkeley. The class was taught by an excellent Bay Area wedding filmmaker couple and I ended up working for them over a summer while in school. In classic fashion within the film industry, I learned the trade of wedding cinematography and storytelling first hand as a trade from very experienced filmmakers. My passion for the art of wedding filmmaking grew, and after I completed my first feature length narrative film, I established my own wedding film company utilizing the techniques and concepts I’d learned from experts in the field. I brought in my friend and fellow filmmaker Sergio Gomez as a second lead cinematographer, and since 2013 we have shot over 120 weddings all over California at some of the premier wedding destination venues in the world! We really love the art of telling our couple’s story in a cinematic, beautiful way with a special emphasis of capturing the unique moments and emotions of their special day.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Along the way, it has been interesting learning the business side of running a production company and working with clients. We are filmmakers by trade, but learning to become entrepreneurs and discovering how best to serve our clients has been an amazing process. It was difficult at first to find our way in a huge industry and reach our ideal clients, but over time we have learned the type of clients and vendors we love to work with!

Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about Studio Arcady – what should we know?
We are a wedding cinema company and we really specialize in creating wedding films that capture our couple’s wedding story in a cinematic, emotional way. We really like to edit our films in a way that follows the emotion. We want our films to be really beautiful, but not at the expense of the emotion and love of the story. We don’t want to create a piece of art to hang in a museum, but a living, breathing film that captures the raw moments and deep emotion.

Any shoutouts? Who else deserves credit in this story – who has played a meaningful role?
My partner Sergio Gomez has been a great help in building Studio Arcady into the company it is today. He works very hard and loves to capture the most beautiful shots of the day and help craft a film that our couple’s will treasure for years to come.
