Meet Kingston the Barber

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kingston the Barber.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Kingston the Barber. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I started in music as a songwriter. I received my first placement with Gladys Knight on a track called “old school” which I co-wrote with Leon Sylvers III. From there, I began to release music independently on the hip-hop side beginning in 2017 with an EP (WAVES), an Album in 2019 (KingPen), and my new 2020 contribution, Early Bird Gets The Worm, I am owner of Sami Arts & Music, a Los Angeles based independent record label that developed and houses more than just musical artist. I also own “Early Bird Gets The Worm,” a content creation & lifestyle brand designed to implore and inspire creative, athletic, and business-minded individuals alike. In the next five years, I aim to have established a bold brand presence on the west coast, known for the highest quality of art as well as content with both my company & brand.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
One of the biggest and most obvious struggles is two things, not having the money I need to effectively & efficiently promote my product, and the 2nd thing is learning to balance work, home, & music and still be productive & relevant in all aspects of my life. Also, I grew up in California’s foster system, and I do believe troubles within my upbringing causes me to lose focus more often then I would like to. Things related to depression and self-confidence that at times leaves me stagnant or uninspired in life. But I’ve been doing A LOT better.

Can you give our readers some background on your music?
I’m a business, as in the rapper Kingston the Barber, who obviously is a rapper. I begin releasing music in 2017 with an EP (WAVES), an Album in 2019 (KingPen), and my new 2020 contribution, Early Bird Gets The Worm Volume 1. I am the owner of Sami Arts & Music, a Los Angeles based independent record label that developed and houses more than just musical artists, including visual arts, painters, dancers, authors, etc.; I also own “Early Bird Gets The Worm,” a content creation & lifestyle brand designed to implore and inspire creative, athletic, and business-minded individuals alike. In the next five years, I aim to have established a bold brand presence on the west coast, known for the highest quality of art as well as content with both my company & brand.

Has luck played a meaningful role in your life and business?
Luck is when preparations meet opportunity, I’d say I’ve been more prepared than lucky.
