Meet Kiara C. Morrow

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kiara C. Morrow.

Kiara C. Morrow is an american fashion designer known for her unique, elegant and blod styles created just for kids.

She started her carreer after being prmoted from intern to creative design assistant to a high-end event planner in the Washington metropolitan region. She also served as a mentor, teacher and coach at local schools.

During this time, she continued to master her craft and ultimately started her own design studio in her bedroom. As a one-woman business, she began freelance designing and participating in various fashion shows in the Washington DC area. She ultimately established her own brand, Kicomo, in 2018.

At Kicomo, every outfit and accessories are conceptualized, designed and handmade by Kiara C. Morrow.

The Kicomo brand is derived from the designers name Kiara Colby Morrow.

Kiara means to change or make a difference. Thus, giving birth to the Kicomo motto: “Different is beautiful”.

The designer’s goal is to celebrate the unique aspects and individuality of each person.

Kicomo strives to be driving force to change societal dictates of beautty by promoting the individual beauty that everyone possesses.

Kicomo has been featured on fashion runaways from New York to London and we’re just getting started.

In 2019, Kicomo was featured in a Harper’s Bazaar Brazil kids editorial by Storme Sabine.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Easy, by no means! Satisfying, absolutely!

As I stated earlier, I work out of my bedroom/studio. I work two other jobs to help finance my dream. The pursuit of one’s passion is a noble ideal, but it comes with hard work, sacrifice and multiple failures.

What struggles do I have?
Balancing life is the main struggle. Yes, I want a successful business, but life has may different facets that contribute to a purposeful life. Personal health, spiritual growth, family and friends, are all inportant for a balanced life.

We’d love to hear more about your work.

I like for the designs to speak for themselves. They elevate kids fashion to a different level of creativity., innovation and style that we are used to seeing.

Each season / collection, through color choices, design patterns and drapery reflects what’s going on in my head and is a personal outlet of my emotions.

What were you like growing up?
Growing up… I was different, but I always wanted to fit in. So, that made me a very determined person. Regardless of what I did or how good I was at it, I put everything into it.

I really loved my grandmother’s style. She is the one who indirectly introduced me to fashion. She gave me my first fashion magazine, Vogue. When I opened the magazine and said, “a model?” I pointed to the classic chanel tweed suit that the model was wearing and I said, “no, I want to make art. I want to see it showcased everywhere!”

Since that time, I haven’t given up on that dream.
