Today we’d like to introduce you to Kharmony Fortune.
Kharmony, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I am a certified foster mother and caregiver of two beautiful boys/brothers. I am also the youngest African American woman CEO of a Talent agency in Los Angeles.
I was born and raised in the South Bronx, NY to a single mother who struggled with a cocaine addiction my whole life. I always had a passion to be a world changer and would find every possible way to be a doer including public service work within my sorority Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., volunteering/working at shelters (Children of the Night) and more! One of my greatest adversities was living in the shelter system during my adolescence and growing up surrounded by violence, abuse and poverty. As a young adult I continued to advance into the Entertainment industry with roles such as singer/songwriter, creative director, A&R assistant, talent manager and newly owner of a reputable talent agency!
I do personal development on a daily which consists of motivational speeches, podcasts and ted talks, and I am actively involved in a spiritual fitness group and book club. I continue to work diligently to make my dreams come true which includes inspiring others to pursue unlimited possibilities and make their own dreams come to fruition. I truly believe in my gifts and talents and maintain an undying passion to make a difference in my lifetime.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Yikes. This journey has not been a smooth one at all. I have had a lot a setbacks including financial struggles, which led to me almost being homeless (again) in LA. I also had to learn how to maneuver in LA being a young woman boss in the Entertainment Business. Because I come from a childhood of struggling and had to work hard just to take care of myself and have basic necessities, I know the value of being determined and tenacious. I refused to settle for shortcuts and chose to keep my integrity as I worked my way to where I am, so that no one could say I owed my success to them. I also had to learn how to change my way of thinking and fight through dark/depressing days in order to get to where I am. These days are FILLED with gratitude and positivity and I surround myself with nothing but amazing talented uplifting people in my day to day, on my team and on my roster.

Is there a characteristic or quality that you feel is essential to success?
I feel that my willingness to try and work hard no matter what the obstacle is has been most important. Being courageous is key to being successful because I have never known what the outcome would be, I just worked for the best possible outcome no matter what. I have always been tenacious and driven and that matched with a positive attitude has contributed to my success. Also, being selfless. If I could inspire others to do anything as they climb the ladder of success is to ask themselves, what am I doing for the person next to me? Helping others reach success has been a strong contributor to my own success.
